I've done a bit. Mostly premade things that I've animated before and kinda just play live with transitions.
Programs, use arena by resolume.
Tutorials, its kinda tough! there's not many. It's just practice. Also its all in the set up. The more set up before the live gig the better.
What I havent done and want to learn more of is having the audio in. So for example you can isolate a frequency or whatever like the high hat, and attach that to an effect or even something basic like scale then it would bop to the beat.
The VJ reddit has helped me out a few times.
Il try find a little video or something that I've done.

Amazing buddy, would love to see some examples!
Whats the difference between arena and avenue btw?

Arena is just avenue + a few more featurues
I do less like "VJing" but more like live visuals with brief etc.

Different guy than op but I'm also interested. How would you go about getting VJ jobs, do you just ask around your local clubs and venues, or do you target ads specifically? I would've thought it was similar to DJing in that the pay could be irregular unless you're a resident at a club. Do you do it full time? Would it even be possible to do it full time for decent pay? I'm less concerned about the pay as I would just like to do something other than standard graphic design for a change, but either way it'd be nice to know.

For me I've found its just a side shoot from being an animator. I have an advantage of being in the events industry a bit anyway.
But yeh I guess the same with any industry, ask around, do free gigs, get to know people.
I'd say don't look at it as a full time gig. Most DJ's arnt full time and this is needed even less. Its fun though. Being in front of huge crowds and stuff!

OP here
Well I do a lot of GD stuff for local musicians as a hobby, and work inhouse full time. Always wanted to do live performances, and never wanted to play in a band; VJ seems like the perfect balance.
What you can do is just write/call to local venues, musicians & artists, atleast thats how I got into the music scene with GD. You need some social skills tho and prolly do some free work.
