the aspect ratio of the iphone is way wider than 16:9. the only way the video will extend the whole horizontal width of the screen is if you double tap to zoom in, in which case you'll deliberately be losing a fair amount of space at the top and bottom to fill the screen.

this is the same with the samsung galaxy s8 and literally every other smartphone with a screen that doesn't conform to 16:9
