A relative of mine worked for Nokia from early 90's to 2014 then for Microsoft for a year. His explanation to why they discontinued Meego was just "We were too late with the first Meego phone and by that time Android and iOS were much more polished and had a lot more developers making apps for those platforms. I don't have much experience with iOS but when I moved from N9 to a Nexus 4 I was suprised how completely barebones and incoherent Android was compared to MeeGo. How did android manage to win the OS war is completely beyond me.

It's so obvious how far ahead Nokia was hardware quality wise. You just can't beat experience. For example I had the lumia 800, say what you want about windows phone, but god damn it was well built. 100% quality from top to bottom.
