Should you really install 64 bit operating system if you only have 4GB RAM?

yes

Works for me.
>7 year old laptop
>4GB ram
>Windows 7 professional 64 bit runs completely smooth

10 didn't run well but who knows what the bottleneck there was, I downgraded after 10 minutes.
>>
>>62315896
There's literally no reason to run a 32bit OS if your system supports 64bit.
>>
>>62315920
>10 minutes
Seems like you have autism.
>>
>>62315954
Native 16 bit compatibility.
>>
>>62315896
Yes. Among other things it will run faster since the ABIs can exploit more registers.
>>
>>62315896
>64 bit allows faster execution
>64 bit allows more than 4GB ram out process
>64 bit allows more security features
>64 bit allows better programming models
Yo yo yo hole up. 4GB? I have less than that so I'mma use 32bit

My mouse was moving in delayed, jagged movements rather than in a smooth line.
Windows 10 can fuck off.
>>
>>62315977
How come 64-bit doesn't support this?
>>
>>62315920
Its hard drive speed
New sata 3 hdd drives are good enough but ssd is far preferred both sata 2 and 3 devices

And update your damn drivers

It's cool, but I haven't actually had legacy software that needed NTVDM since the early 2000s. Besides, these days things like DOSBox are far superior for running legacy DOS software.
>>
>>62316062
Limitations of AMD64, you can't use virtual 8086 mode from long mode
>>
>>62316012
Also if you add more memory it will be addressable without having to reinstall your entire OS.
>>
>>62315920
I'd go back to 7 as well if FX CPU's didn't have problems with it

Wine can run 16bit programs on x86_64 Linux.
I thought it was because MS could not be bothered as saw it as a chance too kill 16bit support.
>>
>>62315977
Ik pretty sure there are very few 16 bit applications that could run on a modern operating system even of it is 32bit
>>
>>62316598
It can't run them natively.
>>
>>62316598
It probably uses an emulator then, MS could have written a version of NTVDM that emulates it instead of running natively, but I guess the market for it is so small that it's not worth doing. They just leave it in x86 Windows because there's no point in removing it, like most legacy features of Windows.
