I actually met someone who bought a Thermaltake level 10 for $500 but used the mobo IGP because he ran out of money.
This was 7 years ago, and the IGP was a HD 4200, which can barely player 1080p low bitrate videos

Not him and i agree overpaying for a 1337 haxxorz case is stupid, but spending 1k on a CPU is fucking retarded

Neither of them are performance, those are utility. Dust filtering is shit on the CM Storm Trooper, I always had fine dust sitting in the case just after two months. The factory case fans are loud as fuck, another expense to replace them with ones that don't go 36 dBA from the get-go.

And as for vibration... well, it doesn't vibrate, but the case is so fuck huge, the drives echo in it, so their humming sound is amplified.

Typical example of less is more.

>Spends $1000 on his PC
>gets a boring as fuck case
Sounds like a man who has his priorities straight. The more money spent on components, the better.
Would you really rather spend $200-$300 on a case and give up that extra SSD or potential 8TB of storage? Maybe even an upgraded GPU? Or CPU?

Money matters.
LEDs don't.

Now if you are beyond the typical retarded sheep gamer, and you have a legit use for advanced features buying an expensive case is worth every cent. But that's only if you buy an expensive case with features, and LEDs don't count. I'm talking stuff like room, build quality, expansion, hotswap bays, dust filtration, noise cancellation/vibration dampening/carryability if you travel a lot.

There's a lot to consider.
But if you only build the PC then leave it as is there's literally no reason not to buy the $25 case that fits your needs. Unless you have autism, more specifically the bad kind of autism. Not the kind where it leads to to make rational decisions like >>62281219 wanting a silent matte black box. I'm talking about the autism that makes you yearn for LEDs and memes, and makes you feel depressed if you got the wrong color underwear from your parents at christmas.
>>
>>62281520
>I'm talking stuff like room, build quality, expansion, hotswap bays, dust filtration, noise cancellation/vibration dampening/carryability if you travel a lot.
And FFS, get a good PSU.
With a good PSU and case, you'll save yourself build/maintenance pains, noise, and b0rked components.
>>
>>62279750
I did that, until my Z77 MPower failed with a 'big bang', taking an i7 with it. Not falling for the 'dust is okay' meme again--bought a couple of cases with dust filters.
>>
I don't look at my computer, I don't post pictures of my computer on the internet, and I don't invite people over to look at my computer. I get the least visually obtrusive case with the best airflow I can.
>>
I'm entertained by the frustration of others.

Minus the fact that they are made from the thinnest metal sheets that rarely fit together. I'm not a guy that spends fortune on aesthetic things, but at least I buy cases that will be holding my components together, not a case that will be held together by my components.

>>62284015
I've got plenty of personality, it's just that a window in the side of the case and dozens of unnecessary LEDs do not make good decorations.

I'm certainly willing to have a case that's something other than a plain black monolith, if it's something nice. The case from an SGI, for example. Certain Mac towers, such as the G5 PowerMac. Something made to look like something tasteful or interesting - 70s or 80s HiFi equipment, maybe.

But as things stand, the choice is between functional monolith or blingy shit, so I'll take the monolith.

I envy people, who can just pick whatever they prefer looking or not looking at to put their shit in. In the meanwhile my selection process for an mITX case was the following:

>power AND reset button, so I can repurpose the reset button
>horizontal layout with a mobo cutout
>PSU directly beneath the mobo, so the notoriously overheating 950 Pro M.2 can be cooled by its fan
>one 5.25 bay (to put a 2.5 and a 3.5 drive in) and a 3.5 hot swap bay, or 2x5.25 bays
>no GPU length limitation, so I can pick any card I want
>a removable hard drive cage to fit a reservoir, because fuck AIOs
>support for a 50mm thick dual radiator

... and by the time I reached the end of my checklist, there was one single case on the entire fucking market I had to import from abroad that filled all my criteria and even for that one I needed a dremel and a drill to remove a riveted tray and some metal plating.

If youre not going for any kind of aesthetics why bother buying a case that looks good? If it has the features you need, its fine. That rosewill case isnt much but it has all the standard features most people need.

I use a Cooler Master Elite 110, little cube thing. Its not fancy in the slightest, its mainly vents and shit. But it works great and has everything i need for my PC, and most importantly, ~nothing more~.
I dont need a case with 10 drive bays and room for 4 way 290x crossfire if i have a single 750ti on a mini itx board with two drives.

Those are absolutely minuscule reasons for going through the effort and expense you likely went through to build a PC that is slightly smaller (and almost certainly performs worse) than a less expensive ATX build. The only acceptable answer was that you move your PC around the world a lot for work which you claimed it might be for professional use.

And in the end, you still needed to fucking butcher your case with a dremel. Jesus Christ anon, sort yourself out.

So you think it's minuscule not to suffocate an M.2 SSD already prone to overheat by placing it right under the hottest component in the entire computer, a video card. Because that's where most M.2 slots are, right below the primary PCI-E slot.

It's also minuscule, that with a horizontal ITX layout the video card draws fresh air straight from the outside of the case through a mesh side panel, while the CPU is cooled front to back in a straight wind tunnel, so the whole computer just performs not only cooler, but quieter, with less fans installed to begin with.

And I have yet to see any benchmarks that would say mITX suffers from lower performance, I see just as many VRM mosfets and chokes on my ASUS Z170I PRO GAMING than on any other ATX gaming motherboard at the same price.

And the only thing I needed a dremel for was to get something out of the case I thought was screwed, but actually was riveted. No big deal.

I think your comment is more about your aversion to mITX.

>>62295542

Temps will naturally be higher, but as long as you're not thermal throttling it doesn't make a difference. If anything I'd say only downsides besides temps are: more planning, more niche(it took longer for ryzen itx boards to come out), can't shove a bunch of 3.5" drives in it, potentially louder.

What the shit do you have IDE drives for
Corsair 750D can take 10 drives if you buy two extra drive cages, iirc they're available to order from Corsair's website for like 20 bucks a pair which makes 12 native 3.5" mounts. Then you can mount another 3 drives in the 5.25" bays, and 4 2.5" drives behind the rest of your drives.
There are other cases that can take 10 or more drives out there, but the only ones that come to mind are more expensive.

And i'm going to need more cooling and space after i upgrade my setup, i'm considering getting the Corsair 200R and slapping a couple of extra nocuta fans and dust filters. Should be fine no?

The mastercase series is a fucking joke. The Storm Trooper shits all over it.

>Not buying a boring case with sound dampening material on the inside
>Performance > Looks
I like my silent boring build, am I supposed to stare at it or something all the fucking time?
>>
>>62295787
You can buy a version with an actual metal front end, but I can't see why you'd do that.
>>
I like having a silent featureless black box with maybe a single light, knowing that the box has more raw computing power than 99.9% of the flashy LED-covered windowed and Fischer Price-colored boxes people have.

I'm in total agreement with you, but have you considered ditching the IDE drives when it comes to your case?

You can get 8TB of space for $170 if you don't care about performance. At this price, a 200GB drive is like 5 bucks worth of storage capacity in terms of 8TB Valued $ per GB.

If you're afraid to throw them out (for whatever reason) perhaps it would be best to retire them into external enclosures? I just don't see the point in looking for motherboards and shit to base your purchase on taking the IDE's into consideration, it just does not seem worth it to me.

>8TB of space for $170
What? How?

>it would be best to retire them into external enclosures
I do have them in external enclosures, I'm not the Anon who wanted them inside the case, I was just making the argument why have them the first place.

u want pray game?

Can anyone recommend me a "gaming size" case that doesn't have anything on the front and sides?
I want a literal black box without any windows or ports on the front, only a button to power on. Maybe some holes for ventilation.
With gaming size I mean PSU on the bottom and some holes for cables.

Yea, well, I'm in yurop, and my country has 27% VAT. The cheapest 8TB hard drive I can buy is a Seagate ST8000AS0002 for 250 USD at the online shop I work at, and that's basically the wholesale price, since I'm a coworker.

Imaging being this guy lmao.

So autistic he'd rather take panels off and leave slots open than just vacuum the vents.

Is this aesthetic?

I kind of like how it looks actually. The handle is a sort of bonus for when I want to clean and vacuum my room and want to move everything off. Or taking it outside to dust it with some compressed air.

Just buy it if you like the looks.
I personally don't like the top side but the front looks nice.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Sapper
>In 1980, Sapper was appointed principal industrial design consultant at IBM and began designing numerous portable computers, including the first ThinkPad 700C in 1992, which broke with the company's tradition of pearl-grey machines with a simple and elegant black rectangular box. This minimalistic box would reveal a surprise inside: a small red button amidst the keyboard which would serve to control the screen cursor. Sapper continued to oversee the ThinkPad brand as design consultant to Lenovo after it acquired the IBM PC Division in May 2005.

Best case design ever. A real shame the interior is dogshit.

>>
>>62278601

I really love this one. Its variants are cool, too.
>>
>>62288693
I absolutely accept that what I'm about to say totally goes against this thread, but I would pay out the ass for this case. for anyone else looking, the part number is 00KT183, but before pulling the trigger I want to find out if all of the front i/o connectors are proprietary, and if the rear i/o shield is removable and also mounting screw positions. If the person who posted this could reply with a picture of the machine with the side panel off, or even just from the back that would really be awesome!
>>
>>62301436
Now you need to worry about the dust OUTSIDE the case as well as inside!
>>
Because a case that looks like a Transformer is very childish. DOnt you think, OP?
