If you want help:
>Assemble parts list
https://pcpartpicker.com/
>State the budget for your build (and country if not USA)
>List games/software you use often, as well as your monitor resolution + refresh rate
>Clarify your goal for build improvements: lower price or improved specs?
How to assemble a PC, select components & more (outdated)
https://wiki.installgentoo.com/index.php?title=Build_a_PC

CPUs:
No i5 unless discounted
>G4560 - poverty-tier builds
>R3 1200 - Budget builds (<$500)
>R3 1400 - If you need multithreading
>R5 1600 - Best value for higher fps gaming / mixed usage
>R7/Used Xeon/Threadripper - Compute/Multitask/VM/mixed use, not for just gaming

GPUs:
Coin miners have driven price up and stock down, waiting to buy a GPU might be wiser
>Integrated CPU Graphics - Desktop stuff and very light games
>GTX 1050(Ti) - Lower end budget cards, drop settings on newer games, RX560 beaten by both
>RX570 - 1080p@60~hz maxed, running most maxed older games at 100~Hz
>RX580 and GTX1060 6GB - 1080p@80hz maxed, 1440p@60hz at lower settings; RX580 better in newer games
>GTX 1070 or Vega 56 - 1080p@130hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p
>GTX 1080Ti - 1440p@144hz and 4k@60hz maxed/high in many games
>Good fucking luck even getting a VEGA right now

RAM:
>Check your Mobo QVL before buying any RAM
>Ryzen CPUs benefits a lot from high speed RAM, 3200 MHz is ideal

General:
ALWAYS LOOK AT PRODUCT REVIEWS!
Always consider an SSD. Try buying a large SSD for what you'd pay for your SSD+HDD combined, and add a HDD later
NVMe SSDs aren't for a faster OS boot, they're for productivity/scratch disk/VMs. NVMe and M.2 are not the same thing, M.2 is a form factor

About to purchase most of the items needed for my first pc build tonight. I might wait while still thinking over 1070 vs 1080. I am extremely excited.
>>
>>62264125
>1080 or 1070
What kind of games will you be playing and what kind of monitor do you want to use? Resolution, hz
>>
>>62264125

What's your target usage?

>GTX 1070 or Vega 56 - 1080p@130hz /1440p@60hz at high
>GTX 1080 - 1080p@144hz / 1440p@60hz maxed, 4k@60hz in a few games; Probably the highest end card you need for 1080p/1440p

pretty much sums it up

Fuck off already and replace it with the AM4 Bristol Ridge APUs
>>
>>62264144
Don't think I will be using it for 4k yet, might just go with the 107p and upgrade later if I want to

>>62264140
probably just 1080p
>>
>>62264149
Not without reviews.
>>
>>62264144
What games is that based on? Have yet to play a game my r9 390 does not do "1440p@60hz at high".
>>
>>62264158
1070 is a solid choice. Go for it and you can enjoy maxing out any game at 1080p
1080 isn't much more powerful to be honest, 1070 is the ultimate value choice
>>
>>62264158
>probably just 1080p
A 1070 will be just fine for that, unless you plan on changing monitor before a year or something.
>>
>>62264175
The reviews doesn't matter, it's just a placeholder CPU until you can replace it with something better. Why would you want to spend more money now just to get a mediocre CPU and have to replace half your rig when you want to upgrade it instead of getting a cheaper CPU now that's servicable and that you can replace with any new CPU that's going to be released by AMD within the next 3-4 years?
>>
What's considered multitasking on the R7 description in the OP? I like to watch King of the Hill, YouTube videos, Vlogs, browse /g/ while playing games. Will I benefit from the R7?

Recently bought a z170 board and 7700k and want to get a new case as well. My old one only has 2 front usb 3.0 and the two 2.0 ports there are busted. Anyone got any good recs for a case that isn't flashy, but has nice features like usb 3.1? I hate see through/glass panels and am shit at cable management. Plus the led lights on my ram, heatsink, and gpu don't match colors anyway.
>>
Should I go with a 1060 6gb or the RX580 for my budget 1080p gaming machine?
>>
>>62264301
Not really. The 1600 should handle that no problem.
It's more if you're streaming and recording while playing a game, for instance.
>>
>>62264309

Open testbench.

For real though you can get a USB hub routed from the back of your case and mount it to the bottom of your desk,if you don't want to buy another case

Either, they're pretty closely matched. The 1060 uses a bit less power and runs a bit cooler, so if they're the same price go for 1060 6GB.

Whichever you can find cheaper. Performance is pretty much the same, but the rx480/580 are always out of stock or overpriced because of miners.

Building a pc for a friend but it's been a while since i researched for parts.
Other than browsing the web, all he does is photoshop so i assume a decent cpu with an ok integrated gpu would be enough for him.
Are intel integrated gpus good? or should i go for amd?
My options are: a6 7400k, a8 7650k, g4400 or g4560.
Budget should be around 110$ for a cpu.

it's good at idle but stays cool under full load only by being loud as fuck. also it's a pain in the ass to install. be quiet! PURE ROCK or Cryorig H7 are much better alternatives and they're barely more expensive.
it's not 2011 anymore and better coolers have came out.
>>
>>62264935
Good luck finding it for $80, and why the fuck would someone spend $80 for doing the stuff you described when a $50 CPU handles it just as well? The G4560 got popular because of the gaming performance, not the shit you described.
>>
>>62265134
212 EVO can often be found as low as $20, and rarely over $25 (after mail-in rebate, admittedly)
H7 and Pure Rock hover relentlessly above $30, usually more like $35

They're better coolers than the EVO, I agree, but you are paying for it

they're not increasing msrp, it's the retailers who make extra. in fact amd fucking hates that shit and if anything it has the potential to lose them a ton of money.

>>62266026
>AMD and retailers are fucking retarded too for not boosting production
Now that would lose them a shit ton of money. Doubling your production is not only really expensive, but it takes a ton of time, so if the bubble burst by the time the cards come onto market then they lost everything. That, and you can't just build more factories for 6 months then stop using them.

My boyfriend's computer broke yesterday, his whole system is overdue an upgrade and he's only going to keep the GPU (960 2GB) for the moment.

The budget is 900€ (We're in Portugal), so I know prices may vary - add 100 to the total price or so I guess.

If we carry over the GPU and HDD, is this system looking good?
He just wants to play videogames at high fps (but now on ultra). I think a Ryzen 5 1500X would be good if he just wants to get 100fps in BF1 on low.

Are mail-in-rebates a meme? Do they actually work or do they take like 3 months to process so you can save $10?
>>
>>62268155
You did not to cheap out on RAM and CPU, which is a good thing for your usage. A 1060 should be able to run anything at 1080p60 if you don't ming lowering settings, so it makes sense especially given the prices at the moment.
Do you actually need an X370 motherboard though? I don't see anything in your usage that requires more than a B350. You could save $50 there.
And as the other anon said, a good 500-550W PSU will be enough, unless you plan on getting a 1080 Ti in the future or something. This one https://pcpartpicker.com/product/fZyFf7 is good and cheap.
You could save a little on the cooler with an H7, but it's not much.
>>
>>62268424
They do work, but they take a while to process and are a hassle to apply for. The companies bank on a very small part of people actually using the rebates, and among those a few won't send in all the correct info, so they lose almost nothing by offering the rebates.
>>

I'm planing a build for a 144hz 1080 monitor.

later down the line I want to upgrade to a 1440 monitor (or a 4k). I also want a lot of processing power for strategy games. Would it be smart then to save money on the GPU and then spend that saved money on the cpu and get something like a 7700k?

Also, if I went with that processor, what would be a god gpu for maxing out 1080p? I was thinking of getting a 1070 and upgrade cpu later, but since I want to save some money maybe an Rx 580 would be better?

I wasn't talking about the size, but the interface. M.2 supports normal SATA and also PCIe (for NVMe SSDs). The additional performance of NVMe is useless for traditional use, and only useful for specific productivity applications.

I'm probably going to ask you the exact same thing. Or are you just envious? Anyways your comment is quite unfounded.
Let's see... The Xeon has a base frequency of 3.5 Ghz, the same frequency of an I7-3770k, but it also has 8 cores so it's double the processing power. The GTX 1080 performs so much better than a GTX 660 Ti and there's 2 of them. RAM is twice what my old build had, and the SSD is faster and larger compared to what I have. Basically it's a gaming PC with everything turned up to 11.

I bought an ASUS mobo B350 plus and some G.Skill Trident Z 3200MHz CAS14

I failed to make the memory run at full speed, seems like 2800MHz is stable.

Did I fucked up ? i'm pretty pissed X(

i dont think the package has ever been closed, you know when you rip off tape off cardboard, some of it comes off too, the cardboard is 100% clean

the ryzen box is the correct one (1600) and it still has the tape on the actual box, its unbroken

I plan on putting together a cheap pc build ofr my cousin soon, its his first desktop but i need to keep it on the cheap because i have to also get him a desk and monitor. I've been looking at the bristol ridge apus? are they any good? Ive seen the anthalon x4 for am4 socket paired with a 750ti

or maybe the machine just ran out of they forgot to tape it idk

it has zero (0) signs of being ripped open because as mentioned there is not even any sign of tape being on the cardboard box, so it's clearly the retailer that fucked up, not the shipping company

they put in tons of those small air thingys in the box, im just wondering how they forgot to tape it. The ryzen box itself has zero damage, zero scratches, zero dents, the tape is still on it, so i hope we good

update bios then use xmp and manually set ram speed to 2933. if its c15 or c16, prob the best that it will do, might be able to tighten timings. c14 which is B die, is the only confirmed 3000< ram to work ootb

So, is it worth waiting for Coffee Lake if all I do is playing games?
I really wanted that sweet 1700 with the stock cooler, but I don't see any benefit for me if I just shitpost, play games and maybe do some of these multi threading shit, but an i5 8700k would do just fine, I guess.

I also have currently an i5-4460 and a 1060 6GB with a 1440@144 monitor, so I'll also get the next Gwen's GPU and sell this one.

I won't make your boot or applications snappier, but if you're video editing on it or transferring large files, it helps, but you don't need it, spending the money on a 500gb to 1tb SSS is what you want, more reliable.

If it's for gaming, i'd drop the R7 and get an R5 1600, then use the extra $100 and put it towards getting a 1070 or used 980ti. You'll get more performance this way, and can even make the jump to 1440p if you wanted to.

Hi /g/, I know shit about computers and I got this by checking around so please no bully too hard.
My budget is 750€ and since I'm already above it due to shipping costs I can't "just buy this slightly more expensive but better part".

Is this good for the money I have? I can't get a SSD because I'd rather have bigger memory so I'm out of money for that.
I've heard Ryzen is a russion roulette meme, should I just get an i5 instead?
Thanks in advance.
>>
>>62273560
What are you using it for?
>>
>>62273560
>I've heard Ryzen is a russion roulette meme, should I just get an i5 instead?
where the fuck did you here that? And no. Ryzen is just picky about ram.

As to your build:
>get a B350 motherboard. Fuck the A320 boards
>get 2666 mhz or higher ram. Makes a huge difference. Also, 2 4GB sticks is better than 1 8GB stick
>PSU is overkill wattage-wise. Try for a 500-550W PSU with black cables.

Looks alright otherwise. The 1400 is decent, and you can upgrade to a 1600 or Zen2 later
