There's 8k tv's and 4k's been around for half a decade. It's not expensive to produce, the industry is just trying to milk consumers dry with little innovation. There's probably price-fixing going on too.

Just because 8k is available doesn't mean it's super easy for people to get 4k. Lots of people still keep/buy 1080p monitors and 4k 144hz is not feasible at the moment.

Price fixing is a given though, of course. Look at RAM now and SSDs/HDDs over the last 10+ years and if it's not "floods" (read NSA back orders) it's collusion.

The only people who want 144Hz are people playing vidya. Most modern games run like shit at max 4k 60Hz with high end GPUs so there is no market for it yet.

I am sure the Tech is there if they really wanted to dump it but you always keep shit on the back burner to keep a constant supply of more powerful tech. Like how smarts phones are always kept three generations behind before shipping. I may seem sucky but it is how most companies can continue to innovate without going under.
