Can we talk about this sexy piece of tech?
I simply love everything about it.
Hell, if i could install Gentoo on it i'll probably fuck it
>>
it was cool back when "multimedia device" was a more novel concept

nowadays it's worse than a shitty old android phone

ignoring the games of course
>>
>>62239735
Best emulator machine in existence.
>>
Emulators on it are great, any gba games or snes games run really smooth along with others.
Hell, it could somewhat run n64 games on it

I remember I had one as a kid. I could never figure out how to jailbreak it tho. I even tried taking out the battery and doing the thing where you had to break off a little chip in the battery.
>>
>>62239780
>>62239758
it's crap for emulators, can't even run snes at full speed and the gba emulators are hacky messes
>>
>>62239853

honestly the only people who don't like the vita are people who only want to play AAA crap like call of duty

>>
>>62241200
lol that's why i was holding off, they're so cheaply made
do they actually have one with a casing yet or is it still just exposed?
>>
What is the best handheld for emulating up to PS1 and dreamcast?
>>
>>62241206
if we are talking _BEST_ as in actually best, it's the gpd win'
else there are probably some more chink devices that can handle it

dreamcast emulation is not perfect though, it takes some power to run it, win can do it, don't know about cheap arm devices
>>
>>62241205
hasto be exposed in order to fit
>>
I broke the buttons playing that shitty free to play Tekken Revolution and then the battery expanded which broke the casing. Amazon stopped stocking the casing. I don't really like eBay but looks like that would be where I have to go to replace parts.

He probably reached his limitations or got bored.
You need to remember that no one has cracked the PSP 3000 IPL yet and we only have been able to get CFW because TIFF exploits and eventually because the PSP Keys were discovered inside the PS3 firmware.
When the dark alex forum was available there was a lot of information about the new IPL and they battled hard to try to crack it it and inevitably fail.

But the UMD format was shit, it should have been digital only since the beginning.

Also, I've never found the Vita interesting despite how similar they are, why is so? Smartphones?

>>
>>62239758
PSP has a good reputation for emulation not because it was actually good, but because it was the first portable to be affordable and decent.

SNES and GBA emulation is the upper limit for the PSP and even that is kind of crap. Just about all GBA games require frameskipping. However if you're using a non-1000 PSP with 64MB RAM then you can use the ME build of that recent fork of snes9xtyl which plays just about everything that isn't mode 7 or expansion chip at full speed.
>>
>>62247844
It has a weird "scanline" issue, something to do with the screen refresh.
I still prefer it to the 2000's blurry crap.

>>
>>62247844
This anon >>62247942 is talking about the same thing. 3000 would just display a mess split into these "scanlines" if anything was moving fast horizontally on the screen. It's especially noticable when you're playing taiko no tatsujin.

In fact, 2000 is also superior, because it had a version with the old mobo that could work with permanent mods and the modded battery thing (I forgot the name).

Also, 3000 was supposed to be capable to display more colors, but most games would display little colors and dither a lot regardless.

Oh, and the integrated microphone was only usable with Skype, games would ignore it and use the USB one.
>>
>>62248123
Pandorable 2000s are a homebrewer's wet dream. The only thing it's missing is the 1000's IR blaster.

Newer consoles still have permanent mods on the latest firmware, but it's become harder to find online since there was a brick risk that wasn't fully resolved. My permanent-CFWd 3000 is still going strong, anyway.
>>
>>62248342
Well, I remember there being one CFW that could be installed only on pandorable PSPs. I used pro myself, and it was nice.

Too bad Sony has gone to shit over the years, and they never managed to release something as good as the PSP. Vita was a flop, and after that they just gave up on portable systems that tried to be as good as what you'd get with a home system.

It seems that at this point GPD win is the closest thing to be a spiritual successor to the PSP.

Sony will just keep on releasing low-end PCs that have PlayStation in their name, even though they can't run PSOne games like every other system under that brand.
>>
>>62247980
>no shoulder buttons
>>
>>62239735
Lets talk about the fact that the joystick is literally made of shit
>>
>>62248380
Right now there's only two CFWs still around. There's Pro which is the default for most people. Then there's (L)ME which has a bunch of additional features (like DAX support which I can't live without) but is also closed-source.

I have a Vita. It's... OK. Honestly I play more PSP and PS1 games on it than I do Vita games. I like the improved controls on the console. Memory card adaptors are cool. And hey, we have permanent CFW. You even have the old XMB for PSP/PS1 stuff.

I've tried gpSP kai (various UO builds), gpSP-J and tempGBA4PSP.
None of them have managed to run Metroid Zero Mission at full speed, it's always roughly 30fps. Same ballpark for the Megaman Zero series. Final Fantasy VI Advance is truly awful, about 15fps.
>>
>>62249263
I agree with gba frameskipping being bad. I usually have to set it to 7 for resource demanding games. However i responded to the snes guy not you. Also I like to play snes in widescreen desu :p

How do I make sure the VITA have the 3.60 firmware before I buy it?
>>
>>62250469
If it's new and outside of Japan (i.e not one of the funky new colours) then it's on 3.60 or below.

And all new PSTVs are also on 3.60 or below.
>>
>>62250479

Also, if you buy a used console it's probably been updated. Try to buy new.

A fun fact for you all, the current bitcoin mining network has a combined processing power of 6.7Eh/s Assuming an estimated hash rate of 15Kh/s that the psp 3000 series model has, that would mean that it would take roughly 344 trillion psp's to equate the current hashrate of the collective bitcoin mining network. Assuming this rig were to be built, excluding all intermediary equipment regarding power and space, the rig would take up 94 billion cubic miles of space, and would have a power consumption of 628.08 Tera Watts.

Vita is still shit with SNES games and that boggles my fucking mind\
Unless there's some secret emulator that plays SNES (Super FX/2 games included) without any hitches, I wouldn't claim the Vita as the "best emulator machine"

Barring SNES, the damn PSP is a more enjoyable experience than the Vita because of just how blown the fuck open the system is and how easy it is to load anything onto it, including media (the XMB is so much better than whatever the fuck the bubble shit is they used on the Vita) AND micro SD adapters just werk (they're still annoying to set up on the Vita.)

They never learn, anyone that had a psp at it's prime saw the vita as nothing more than a disappointment. Hacker, devs and players all prefer the psp. The vita doesn't even have many people working on it's emulators and most of them are just ports of psp emulators.

Sad!

I have a weird issue with my PSP. In my CFW settings I set games to run at the max clock of 333MHz. But they don't, they run at the default cloc k of (usually) 222MHz. I don't have this problem with Adrenaline on Vita. Any explanations?

>>62268495
You have nothing to worry about. My 3000 still works and it's usually not used for a year.
>>
>>62268843
LME CFW + Infinity 6.61. Same thing happens with Pro though.
I'm setting it globally in the recovery menu. Games just revert to their default clocks when I boot them. If I use CWCheat then I can set it manually to the desired 333/166MHz. Like I said, this doesn't happen with Adrenaline on Vita.
>>
>>62268495
I just keep mine on charge all the time, I don't think it matters much because everytime I see someone ask about batteries there's always some new myth about how you should treat them. Rechargeable batteries are going to go out no matter what you do, don't think there's much you can do to prevent that.
>>
>>62267182
It's running FreeBSD, but with a clever exploit you can mess with it.
Linux installation on this isn't doable except on one specific modified version, and even then no rsx access so all things are done on CPU

Ps3 is dying so more are showing up than before. Fairly cheap these days

>>62267712
Nope. Has minimal bearing on that in general. Only thing it has that needs emulation is 512mb of ram (which is double a retail ps3 ram). Also vram is not related to the ram I'm talking about.

>>62266530
It makes sense that they'd exclude the PS2 hardware, it's a system specifically made for developing PS3 games.
