openSUSE Leap + KDE Plasma
You will have to do a bit of a leg work though, because there is no non-free software in official repository. So fonts will look like shit (have to install msfonts and freetype also work with subpixel rendering). You won't be able to watch chinese porn cartoons because all codecs are PROPRIETORY (granted, you can install them in a few clicks) and also will have to fight some dumb openSUSE shit like an ugly display manager by default. After you do all that you will get the most complete and a very stable GNU/Linux expereince with GUI for almost every little system tweak (yast could be a bit faster, though) and a nice KDE infrastructire with a decent video editor, nice text editor, best file manager in a biz, etc.
Or if you are lazy and not up to the task - just install Mint Cinnamon. It's not as as bad as /g/ is saying it is.

Nah, it's a one man project that doesn't look like it's going to be here for a long time.
That being said - almost all the things that are listed on GeckoLinux website as features are the things that I did to my openSUSE install manually.
Stil I'm not really sure about a decision to not install recommended packages and additional dependencies. Also, giving a priority to packages from the Packman repo is a mistake because their packages are not so carefully tested as the ones from an official repo. With that kind of thinking you better go to Arch with it's AUR or Manjaro.
>>
>>62230248
If you want something easy, stable and just fucking works... I recommend Mint 18.2 MATE, or Ubuntu MATE. I personally lean more towards mint because it's better right out of the box, but either of them are great.
>>
Ubuntu if you're a total beginner.
Arch is you have a brain and want something fast, stable, convenient, and that just works.
>>
>>62231071
>Ubuntu MATE
Too much pop up errors. Mint version is fine, though.
>>62231126
>Arch is you have a brain and want something fast, stable, convenient, and that just works.
AUR is shit. It's literally a step back from any other mainstream distro which tests its packages. Also official repos are useless.
>>
>>62231464
The official repos have all the main things you need, and for anything else the AUR is great. It works great, it gives access to up-to-date software, it has user comments and subscriptions so you can follow changes easily, and it's safe if you have a brain. You sound like you've never used Arch.

>>62230390
Holy fuck 3rd from the left on the bottom
>>
>>62230383
It's a very clean and minimalistic distro built from scratch aiming towards high user friendliness and convenience
Budgie, it's default DE, is very comfy as well but Gnome and Mate are supported by default as well
The biggest critic it receives is the small software repository but personally i found anything i need
>>
Depends if you're looking for a "just works" or willing to tinker distro
- just works
Manjaro
- tinker
Arch, Slackware

Why not try freeBSD if you haven't used it before, for a change :)
>>
Wow.
Im literally trying Ubuntu on a USB right now because i got bored of Win 7.

So i take Ubuntu aint that good or something?

Im pretty much a Linux newbie, so the vanilla one? I can just install another DE, right?
>>
>>62230248
none, literally virgin weaboos use linux.
>>
>>62230248
Whatever works best for you.
Besides package manager, packaging format and repositories there are 0 differences between nixes.

Also, don't listen to these fags and take Windows into consideration if it suits you better.
>>
>>62233212
Install NeoFetch and find out
https://github.com/dylanaraps/neofetch
>>
>>62230248
Debian if you've never used Linux before. Arch if you're more experienced, or Parabola if you're a freefag. Gentoo if you're full neckbeard.
>>
>>62233212
Yeah. Go xubuntu / lubuntu for performance and awesome customization.
Vanilla, kubuntu and ubuntu gnome if you don't care that much.

I've been using it for the past year and haven't had a single pop-up error
>>
>>62233291
>telling him to install the bloat version of gentoofetch
fuck off
>>
>>62233212
Unity is shit in general and it's abandoned. They're switching to GNOME. Try Kubuntu if you really need to have a windows-like UI, otherwise try Xubuntu or Ubuntu GNOME.
If you feel like you need an easier experience then try Mint Cinnamon or Zorin Core/Lite which are also "babies first distros".

It's impossible to find what you like on your first go. I personally prefer Xfce.
Don't install DEs manually if you're new to Linux unless you're ready to break things. Everyone breaks shit in their first years of an OS. I couldn't manage to use windows without reinstalling it at least once a year when I first used it, and I imagine most people did the same. So the same will happen on Linux.
>>
>>62233275
Rather like Arch if you're average neckbeard gentoo if you are intelligent neckbeard.
Ubuntu is basically debian unstable with extra touch and pretty much every developer anywhere around this planet that develops on linux uses ubuntu.
>>
>>62233359
Only PHP and JS "devs" use Ubuntu.
>>
>>62233353

Oh.
I mean, i tried Xfce one (That's the one that looks kinda like Windows Classic, right?) and liked it. Sooo... I should install Xubuntu.
>>
>>62233465
Which software is written on PHP that you use lmao? I'm talking about desktop developers not web devs.
>>
>>62233249
When will Arch adopt NEOFETCH into the community Repos anyway? It's one of the most voted packages on AUR.

Other packages like Mozc are fairly popular and have been for years and they still haven't added them. Noefetch updates all the time and I don't have a way to update source packages on Arch.
>>
>>62231637
legitimately first thing i looked at
>>
>>62233212
You really need to try Linux Mint 18.2 Mate. Trust me.
>>
>>62233798
>MATE
Shitty DE. Xfce is better in every way.
>>
>>62233849
Bro, cut the bullshit. They're both great in their own ways. Neither one is superior. I just prefer the feel of Mate compared to XFCE. Most people never give it a chance.
>>
>>62233917
>outdated GNOME isn't shit
>>
>>62233503
I use XFCE on anything regular desktop and gnome for its touch.
Xubuntu isn't a bad choice.

XFCE is really damn fast.
>>
Not linux, but I heard TempleOS is great this time around.
>>
Try the big flavors, see what you like.

Really anon, the beauty of Linux/etc. is that you have choice. Try it out and see what you like and enjoy.
>>
Ubuntu FTW
