I finally realized that Avast is a piece of shit.

What's a good anti-virus software to use? I've been eyeing F-Secure.

Any OS that doesn't require AV is best AV

If you insist on using windows, forget shitty all in one AVs that rely on outdated databases and heuristic scannings and look into looking windows down instead

Either by learning how to configure the built in tools or get something like appguard

Just use Windows. It's the most secure OS out there. If you insist on using MacOS or Linux, I really don't have an answer for you. You're pretty much screwed no matter what you choose.
>>

First post best post. First realization is that Avast is shit, next one should be that the whole Windows is shit.

>inb4 Linux is bad because I don't know how to do something even though others can and have done the same thing
>>
If your PC doesn't suck, Norton paid will keep you in a steel armor

If it's weak, Bitdefender.

Funny how script kiddies think linux or mac or just common sense keep you malware safe, as if you could use common sense against drive by download or hacker intrusions.

That's why I also use Little Snitch on my Mac and a hardware firewall on my Linux server. Just because an OS is less targeted since it's nicher it doesn't mean it's safe from everything.
>>
>>62208781
What if he weren't a 14 years old who only uses PC for porn and actually needed some Windows-only software for work?

Good luck using linux for audio production, video editing or digital art.
>>
>>62202947
How does it affect GNU/Linux? You are obligated to chmod it to execute, or this uses already chmod'd binaries to take advantage?
>>
Kaspersky is the only one NSA doesn't recommend businesses use.

Which means that Kaspersky is the only one worth using as it doesn't have a backdoor made by NSA.

However you are at risk that Russians might use it to spy on you, especially if there is any type of conflict in the future.
>>
>>62208745
This, Norton is shit, Kaspersky is botnet and everything else is a waste of time

Called it.
>>
>>62201147
If you're on Windows 7 use Bitdefender or Avira.
If you're on Windows 10, just use Windows Defender with the occasional Malwarebytes scan.

Use uBlock Origin in your browser and add in a bit of common sense, and you'll be fine.
>>
>>62208818
yeah there's are a shitton of backdoors that the rooshians use in Kaspersky, switched to Bitdefender when I learned about it, but that caused BSODs, currently on Avast and it's pretty good.
>>
>>62208814
>Good luck using linux for audio production, video editing or digital art.

>>

>proven and audited Mandatory access control, rich ACL support, filesystem namespacing and cgroups.

ok kid.
as far as I know, windows only has half assed 4 level labels for their mandatory access control system and still rely on NTLMv2 for authentication which isn't hashed and vulnerable to pass the hash attacks.
>>
>>62201147

>>
>>62209065
"salted" i mean whatever I'm tired.

linux is probably the only OS that actually takes security seriously.

and before you say OpenBSD, just don't. Jut because your "base system" of anemic software is secure doesn't mean your shitty base system is secure from a misbehaving out-of-base system application.
>>
>>62208996
Silly trip, winblow$ is for plebs and noobs.
>>
>>62208792
funny how retards think a collection of nonfree and unaudited parsers for nearly hundreds, if not thousands, of files somehow makes your computer secure from malicious binaries.

funny how retards think that a nonfree blob in their kernel on a nonfree kernel will somehow make their computer magically secure against "zero day" kernel or userspace software exploits.

the fact is if your kernel doesn't offer a proven mandatory access control framework like SELinux, your shitware is not secure. period. your meme malware called antivirus does not give you this.
>>
>>62209023
>Audio: Audacity, Ardour, LMMS
Good luck using Audacity (the others are crap) for complex audio projects instead of a fully-featured DAW like Cubase or Logic Pro or Pro Tools. Also lmao at finding good drivers for audio cards as they're already not always that good in Windows or Mac.
>Video: Blender, KDEnlive, OpenShot, Flowblade
The fact that you had to put blender into the list tells us all.
>Art: Krita, GIMP, Inkscape
Good luck with your art tablet's drivers

I love Linux but on some things it's nkt really geared for professional use

firewall is only useful for preventing denial of service or other wasteful and unsolicited communication.

unauthenticated services running without a firewall are just as insecure as they would be with one.

and iptables is a thing dipshit. SELinux and a wide variety of shitty iptables frontends make it trivial from stopping userspace programs from listening on arbitrary ports.

hell SELinux can go a step further in preventing programs from even opening inet sockets to connect to ports running on a machine or externally.

just stop being a dipshit kid. you're so wrong it's not even funny.

Something that antiviruses can't protect you from unless they are the one that created the virus, and something that firejail can mitigate.
>>
>>62210130
>what is a 0day

a flaw in userspace or kernelspace software that must be addressed with a patch or a new software version.

in some cases, sand boxing such as linux namespaces or mandatory access control can mitigate most major attack vectors and would make successful or a meaningful attack very hard.
>>
>>62210163

no what are they?

does your shitty av fucking intercept every syscall and ld_preload injects some shitware in all your processes?

I know most memeware AVs usually install nonfree filesystem drivers for "real time protection" by scanning files that change on disk.
