No, i've never tried it on ppc, but i've tried it on linux.
The package is available for ppc on debian at least, so you just need to install it and provide the data files.

I've tried linux on ppc, it's the same, apart from several packages that rely heavily on x86 asm blobs and are unavailable on ppc.

No, because windows programs need a h/w abstraction to translate x86 asm to ppc.
You don't do that on amd64 linux boxes, because the cpu runs natevily those instructions.
Even if you manage to run x86 programs on ppc, you'll get a huge performance hit.
Openmw will run morrowind natevily on ppc, as it does on amd64 linux.

wine isn't an emulator/virtual machine, you can't run x86 programs under wine without an x86 cpu
you can run x86 wine in an x86 chroot using qemu-user, but i'm not sure about graphics accelleration with this method
and it won't be very quick, since you need to emulate a cpu in software

in many cases, software is written in a portable way, meaning that the source isn't written for one specific kind of cpu
a binary is compiled for a specific kind of cpu, but portable source code might work just fine on multiple cpus, without needing to change anything

linux supporting x86 and ppc, and openmw supporting linux doesn't automatically mean openmw can be compiled and run on ppc linux, i doubt openmw contains any critical cpu-specific code, such as inline x86 asm, however, there might still be assumptions made that can get in the way of compiling on non-x86 cpus, even something as simple as a check to see if you have either a 32bit or 64bit x86 cpu, and having it fail when it finds neither

wine won't, or rather, qemu won't, the only way you're getting x86 wine to run on a ppc is through qemu-user, which can emulate an x86 cpu for wine to run on
however, openmw can be compiled for linux native, it doesn't use or need wine, suggesting wine is if you're trying to run the original windows morrowind engine

now, wine could be compiled for other architectures, but that won't help you play morrowind, as a theoretical ppc wine would only be able to run ppc windows programs, of which morrowind is not one of
