Whenever you see the word "analytics" it means "spying". They want to record who uses the site (tied to a real-life identity), and all sorts of data about what they do there. The purpose being so they can tailor the site into tricking you into doing what they want you to. For a commercial site that'd be maximizing ad revenue or pushing you to buy particular products, for a school it'd be something like steering you towards the classes they want you in and away from ones they want to get rid of.
