Writing an OS in a type & memory-safe language is a good idea. That's why Niklaus Wirth did it in 1987 with Oberon.

I think all the effort spent on Rust could have been better spent porting Firefox to A2 (the latest version of Oberon), or even Cyclone. Rust is just reinventing the wheel.
