/g/, I installed Win10 in a SSD, my old HDD was actually 2 HDD linked with RAID.

In my new install it doesn't recognize my old HDDs, neither does Parted Magic.

Probably my fault since I changed the Sata connectors to put my SDD in Sata 1, and Hard Drives in Sata 2 and 3. I don't even know if I respected the order they had before, nor know if that does matter in order to fix it.

>TL;DR
How to block access too all websites except few.

Windows XP and window 7 machines.

I already asked before but still clawing at it
will likely tell them to just give list sites to be blocked as it becomes pain in the ass the other way.

>firs idea
hosts file in /etc, but first obstacle was inability to use wildcards, but smart anon said unset DNS and then only sites in etc/hosts work
its true, but its kinda hard to allow facebook and yotubu ips to make it work, ranges are huge and can change, its not ideal

>second idea
recommendation of squid proxy server, well nigger you dont want to go get in to the headache of SSL and https filtering, plus it requires additional HW to setup some pfsense box or some shit

>third idea
openDNS, yeah free account does not allow whitelist, only limited block list

>fourth idea
at the level of browser
so user would not be allowed to run other browsers than firefox (win XP cant go chrome), but issue is that currently firefox is going through change, and the BlockSite extension that is suppose to allow this has white list only in legacy version. So after firefox 57 it would not work. Another issue is how to prevent users from tinkering with their own browser profile... seems far from ideal

the thing is that this is for really poor and cheap organization, more like favor.
I dont want to bill them 250€ for some network hardware and work of reinstalling their machines to linux... I just want to get in, do decent work with functianility they want and get out...

NAT in your router should have no trouble getting to that device same as it does not have problem getting to googles 8.8.8.8

I'm learning C from pic related and am having trouble on exercise 2.1:
write a program to determine the ranges of char, short, int, and long variables, both signed and unsigned, by printing appropriate values from standard headers and by direct computation. harder if you compute them: determine the ranges of the various floating-point types.
I found the max value of char to be 127, which is of course 2^7 - 1. I thought unsigned chars were supposed to top off at a byte (2^8). Is my machine automatically "signing" them?
Also, I found the value of short to be 32,767 = 2^15 - 1, but couldn't get the program to display anything for int and long types (i essentially reused the same program for char and short, but swapping out types where appropriate). Here is the program to determine int:
https://hastebin.com/pogipamila.cpp
any help would be most appreciated!

I have a camera (Hikvision) which can only be used over a (wired) network using network cable.
I have to connect it wired to a router and it well then automatically obtain an IP (or ask for a predefined one) at which I can access it.
The manual is about 3 pages long and half chinese English so won't help me. I've looked for it but haven't found the right search term I guess.
The question is:

Is there some way I can configure my linux/iptables/something to act like a router/DHCP server, so that I can plug in the camera directly, give it a self chosen IP address (192.whatever), and access it directly?
I have zero experience with this desu

Bonus points if it doesn't kill my wireless internet connection

Looking for an answer from yesterdays /sqt/

I have a friends laptop. It won't boot into BIOS or anything. I have a win10 USB and can get into recovery options, but, none of the options work except to open the command prompt.

A friendly anon here yesterday suggested that I make a Linux USB and try to boot from there. I made the USB, it shows up on my PC, but it doesn't show up on my friends laptop until i find the drive in command prompt. i can :DIR into it and it shows the Linux files. When I try to launch the USB from CMD prompt, it says it cannot mount.

what to do next? I have never done anything with Linux before

If it boots from Windows USB, you probably didn't create the Linux Boot media correctly, or it is ignored because of SecureBoot.
If the BIOS is fucked (which is weird because it shouldn't boot then) you may be best off restoring windows first. Are you sure you're taking the right steps to enter BIOS?

Try this: https://neosmart.net/wiki/bootrec/#If_you_have_the_installation_disc_DVD_USB-2

Also try (or search in the above article for):
bootrec /RebuildBcd
bootrec /FixBoot
bootrec /FixMbr

When i start the laptop just on its own, it shows the Acer logo and then it shows a little hard drive picture and it says Boot Device not available, then goes into a dos like menu that says boot from Windows (click that, goes black for a minute, returns to that screen).

When I start the laptop with the win10 usb in it, it takes a bit longer to start, but it goes right into the recovery options. none of those options work except command prompt.

When I start the laptop with the linux usb in, it does all the same stuff as step 1, but it still doesnt show the drive under windows boot.

Is it a disk (as in non-SSD) HDD? If so, do you hear it starts spinning when you power on the computer? If not, the HDD is broken or disconnected.

- Can you :DIR into C:\ from the recovery command prompt? If so copy all important files to an USB stick
- Any chance you can take out the HDD and insert it as a secondary HDD in a different system?
- Did you try the bootrec commands in recovery command prompt? They don't just "not work", they give output about what went wrong.

Also try F1-F10 or whatever key combination Acer uses to enter bios/boot menu

Are Prebuilt PCs actually a scam or are people who make reviews morons? They always claim that they "cheap out on the PSU/RAM" yet when buying you can specifically choose which PSU manufacturer, rating, and capacity you want. Its not like you're forced to pick the default brand. Plus I tried checking for the same parts individually on Pcpartpicker and it came out to only very little under that price, and then you have the hassle of dealing with shipping from half a dozen different sites with varying warranties.
>>
>>62171457
I think it's a firefox option.
>>
>>62171471
They are for lazy/stupid people who don't want to learn/ don't know how to build one themselves.
Building one by yourself will ALWAYS be around 20-30% cheaper than buying prebuilt, plus it'll be much easier to maintain because you know how to disassemble/reassemble.
>>
>>62170036
Bump

I apparently configured a DHCP server now (and it seems to give IP addresses to some things) but it seems I cannot communicate over those (or the webcam does not accept them).
>>
>>62171495
I have built a PC before so its not a mystery to me. I'm just searching for parts individually lately and the price difference after adding it all up is negligible. Like $50 or so and thats without planning out the varying shipping costs. But if time is money then its cutting it close. I ended up choosing good brands for all parts but I cant seem to make that 20-30% gap people cite.
>>
>>62171531
Time is money, but you have it backwards. The time you spend doing it yourself is the money you save.

Did some more digging and I'm not sure it's hardware related, the codes point me to a piece of windows code trying to access an invalid memory address? I would guess that a piece of data was corrupted during a fresh install of windows, but the fresh install was in response to an old install that was working fine, and decided to take a shit.

Like I said I'm not sure it's hardware anymore, unless for some reason my mobo decided to fuck itself after I installed a new gpu. I know most people say that memtest throws codes for ram first and foremost and most commonly, but how do you tell? Why the fuck is this happening now? I'm still on windows 7.
>>
>>62171471
>Are Prebuilt PCs actually a scam or are people who make reviews morons?
Yes?
The idea of a prebuilt is "why spend 15-30 minutes doing it yourself when you can pay a little extra for the same result?" but what ends up happening is "we have all these shitty and sometimes faulty parts no one is willing to buy, let's slap some shit together and see what sucker will pay out the nose for it". Since education is being systematically destroyed by those who can't afford educated populaces (anywhere with money basically), people don't take the time to learn anything.
Similarly, since they have such shitty parts no one will buy, like a psu that would blow up, they can argue "oh just skimp on the psu we have all these /cheap/ psus laying around [for good reason mind you]" reviewers see this as an option and don't know any better (why be educated and helpful when you can rip off idiots and ruin society multiple reviews at a time) or DO know better and get bonus deals with the sellers to endorse(blatantly lie for money) the shitty parts they need to sell off.
Sidenote, I made 300$ selling prebuilt lego sets to parents who were bitching to me that "oh you have so many you must know what you're doing and my little timmy doesn't have the time to do such frivolous activities between shitting on the carpet and being yelled at by me for being a shitty parent, can't you just do the work for him so I can say he's a success without putting in any actual effort?". A computer is just a bigger lego. It's literally a fucking bigger lego. Don't buy prebuilt legos. I'm not salty, you're salty.
>>
>>62171531
One benefit for prebuilts I guess is they let you make monthly payments on it

How do you use youtube-dl to download every video form a youtube channel? I've tried (for example)

But the current youtube-dl says this is deprecated, and I suppose it corrected the command but it seems frozen on "Downloading page #1" so I'm not sure it's working. Using ctrl + F in the documentation to search for "channel" and "download all" leads to hits of how to rip playlists, but I don't know if channels are playlists.
>>
>>62171621
Im not sure what point you're trying to make. The faulty or shitty parts argument only applies if you purchase them and don't choose to customize it and choose specific manufacturer brands and models. At that point its nothing but a conspiracy theory to suggest they would sell you literally defective parts from well known manufacturers, especially since they come with warranties that would only cause them hassle.

A bunch of old grandpas on /g/ are living in the past and think prebuilt means what it did 10 years ago where you just chose between a list of a handful of fancy named completed builds and were forced to buy it like that. Today most prebuild sites let you pick and choose each individual part for the model and manufacturer you want (but it'll cost more for obvious reasons). If you have more money than time its a good choice as long as its not your first pc and you arent going in blind in regards to how to take it apart for maintenance and you know the right brands.

Where it should turn off, it instead hangs with nothing on either monitor, until I force it by holding the power button. It didn't do this when I was using Linux, but now that it's back to Windows, it does. What do?

Is it worth getting a 6gb instead of a 3gb 1060? And is there a specific type I should go for? Looking for like, 60fps on High settings. Destiny 2 is probably a good benchmark even though I don't really plan on getting it.

I did, I came up with google's dns, but apparently I'm not supposed to use it, and the only argument against it in the reply chain was it being a botnet, but no arguments for it.
The dnscrypt page doesn't say if you should or shouldn't use it with google's dns, or any 3rd party dns for that matter, or if it's mean to replace a 3rd party dns and I don't really understand if what it does would be beneficial to my original question.

If you don't know, that's fine, but dismissing me because you think my post is bitching? Then I don't get why you bother wasting your time in this specific thread. Seems it would just give you an aneurysm.

If you read the dnscrypt page, even once, you would know exactly which dns to use, as it uses specialized dns servers that are setup to provide dnscrypt security.

Hey everyone. Can anyone give me a few pointers? I have a text in which I need to separate questions and answers. At first, I thought I would only need the answers, so I scraped a regex that grabs only the answers (grabs everything after a question mark(?) until the last period.).
It has a few issues, I have to process that and eliminate some stuff that shouldn't be there but in general, it works.
But now I learned that I'll need the questions too. Is there an easy way that I could grab everything that my first regex didn't match?

The code is as follows:
rgx = '\.([^.]*)$'
for i in range(0,499):
answers.append((file.split("?")[i]))
for i in range(1,499):
answers[i] = re.sub(rgx,'', answers[i])
return answers

Right click the element in question, inspect element.

Now look at the sidebar on the right and go through each column until you see anything that references colors.
Click the Tick next to them just to be sure it is the one you need. It should stick out pretty easily though, it should be a white square.
When you find it, look to the top of that section to find the CSS rules name.

How are gui libraries really made? I always thought that different operating systems just provided a set of widgets for programmers to use, but things like Qt and JavaFX/Swing have their own "look and feel". >>
>>62175279
It's a false positive if you 100% trust the file being pointed to as malicious.
>>
>>62175279
You can't. Most pirated software does actually have malware in it, and its almost inevitable that you will get infected sooner or later from pirating, but AVs will flag that shit either way.
>>
>>62175287
Malwarebytes and Windows Defender both flag the file, as does virustotal. Yet, when I extract the .exe file and scan its elements individually, none of the elements are flagged. Malwarebytes flags it as generic.malware/suspicious. Defender flags it as Trojan:Win32/Tilken.B!cl -- but only Defender on Windows 10 flags this. Microsoft Security Essentials on Windows 7 doesn't flag it at all. Moreover, adwcleaner, jrt, combofix, tdss, and rkill do not remove the file from my machine.

>>62175326
I don't completely trust it, but it does actually make the pirated software function as it should, and I know that antiviruses are made to flag some piracy attempts -- for example, with Windows Loaders.
