OP here, it seems I can't keep this thread posted and bumped all the time so if anyone notices the thread died then you can post it yourself. But you may ask what the point is if not many people are using it anyway, and the reason is for consistency. The more reliable the general is the more users would want to come back to it.

VR!
>>
Is there any difference between the multiple smartphone headmounts?
Or is one of those 15€ headset just as good as say the Zeiss one for ~100€? I'm talking about image quality, not so much comfort, I just assume the more expensive models are better in that regard
>>
my oculus arrives tomorrow

i finally fell for the vr meme, the summer deal was just too enticing
>>
>>62133106
There are huge differences regarding FOV, which on the cheapest models are dogshit. Of course it comes down to the focal distance of the lenses used.
>>
>>62134497
Is there some /g/ recommended one? I don't care if it's a little more expensive.
>>
Is there a place like F95 but for adult vr games?

Specifically I want to get VR Kanojo.
>>
>>62134576
I'm also interested in this.
>>
>>62134143
I've had my Rift for two weeks now. Haven't even touched a non-vr game in that time, it's that fun.
>>
>>62135981
Same but with the Vive. I just started replaying Half Life again since the leaks got me thinking about it again. It was just not as fun as a game with VR support.
>>
How many games on Steam don't have Oculus API? Do I really need to start buying shit on the oculus store?
>>
Is there any word or even speculation in the release of the Knuckle controllers? Trying to decide whether to get a Vive this November or if I should wait.
>>
>>62136260
Most Steam VR content should work fine with the rift.
>>
Went and tried out VR at a Microsoft store yesterday, and bought a Vive on the spot.

What you don't get from the 15-minute tech demo is how hot the headset gets and how much the foam starts to grate over time. Anyone have a recommendation for replacement padding? There are two options on vrcover.com; does the pricier, high-FOV one sacrifice comfort at all?

Just buy 100 from these on ebay for like 10 bucks and replace them weekly or so
>>
>>62137130
I have no problem with my Vive like that, and I wear glasses. My issue is after a while the strap/wires start to hurt the back of my head. Maybe I'm just wearing it too tight, idk...
>>
>>62136840
They may talk knuckles release and the 3 games they're making during steam dev days this year, mid october

Big may though.

Anyone played the modded Doom 3: BFG or Alien: Isolation? I'm questioning whether I should buy the Spooky Humble Bundle and buy D3BFG since they're both on sale. 'Course, I could just pirate them, cough.
>>
>>62137333
Also, any other free movement games I should consider, modded or not? I just don't want to get ripped with common VR game pricing.
>>
>>62137333
Doom 3 mod rebuilds the game to play like a native motion control shootie, the Alien one is gamepad only so Doom 3 is probably the better option.
>>
>>62137545
How well does it play? Not the anon you were replying to, but I'm interested how Doom and stuff like the Half Life 2 mod are going to play.
>>
>>62137644
The Doom 3 mod feels like a native VR game as long as you can deal with a bit of jank and don't get sick from trackpad movement
Should be definite play for everyone

Only thing missing is autistic weapon controls that would let you crank them levers and stick them mags into holes but that's that the HL2 one is going to deliver on
>>
>>62137333
Doom 3 mod is fucking SICK. Played through it on Vive. Super recommended. Alien: Isolation is also another top one, if you can handle the fear.
>>
>>62137701
I had enough trouble with a non VR playthrough. I got freaked out constantly in that game. I can't imagine how it is in VR, I'm scared to even try it.
>>
I rarely hear it talked about, but everyone should look into OVRdrop.

I have a pathetic attention span so being able to watch something while in game is huge for me. It's pretty ideal for something like Eleven that has you mostly facing in one direction, but I've also used it in games like Onward and just placed the screen directly above me.

Only issue with buying it is if it's been in any bundles before. Same with A:I. I've got a problem with being stingy, so even little things like this make me think over.

What do you think, /vrg/? Get the $10 Spooky HB and $5 Doom 3 BFG? I could pirate them, but should I just buy them?
>>
>>62138944
VR is still pretty finnicky in general. For non-MP games, I generally pirate stuff before I buy it. A lot of times it doesn't work properly (I usually use IGG). I'm all about supporting the devs, but I'm not trying to drop $10 for an experience that I could finish before the Steam refund window is up.

>For non-MP games, I generally pirate stuff before I buy it.

I'm the same, though I typically won't purchase a single-player title after pirating it. That said, I don't have much of an issue paying for a multiplayer title. I wish I could get Onward or Pavlov on sale. I've got $60 in Steam codes, and I really want to make it last, so I'm avoiding purchasing anything without it being on sale. Together, the total would be $26 on sale vs $35 otherwise.

>IGG
What is that? A DirectX injector or something? I wish VireIO was easier to use. VorpX is overpriced and finnicky.

I just want to play some fast standard locomotion titles, and those types of games don't seem to go on sale often, according to SteamDB.
>>
>>62139171
>>62139357
I buy all my shit because i'm too lazy
>>
>>62139357
I'm waiting for the Fall sale to get all the games I've been wanting. Hopefully it has the good stuff.

IGG is a pirate site.
>>
I own a vive. ama.
>>
>>62141736

Do you do roomscale? If so do you think 6x9 would be enough for some of it? I'll have a 9x9 space soon.
>>
>>62131260
Please tell me the sale lasts until the middle of September. I can't purchase it right now, but probably on the 10th.
>>
>>62141842
Not him, but I do roomscale in a space that's 9.5x8.5. I had to get really close to the walls and redo the setup a few times before SteamVR would even let me activate the play area, so 6' on a side is probably too small.
>>
I have a feeling they're going to just going to make the sale permanent, or drop the price soon after the sale ends.
>>
>>62142234
if you're in the uk you can use the scan.co.uk service of "buy now, pay 9 months later"

it costs 30 quid extra in total

I finally will be getting my own Vive soon. I also need a new pc for this.
Is an oc Ryzen 1600 together with a gtx 1070 a good idea?
The 1600 is basically the 1600X when I oc it to 3.6GHz right?
>>
>>62146540
I just so happen to have a Ryzen 1600 oced to 3.75GHz and a GTX 1070 in my PC. The only games I've had to turn down the graphics on are Dirt Rally and ETS2, everything else Ive had on high-ultra graphic settings with no noticable framedrops. This is with a Rift though.

>>62131260
Ok, guess i'll ask the only important question

Which one is best for porn?
>>
>>62146540
The differencenter between the x and the non is that the x comes factory oced. A non x is likely but not guaranteed to reach the same overclock. Buying a non x is playing the silicone lottery. Basicly x is paying an extra $50 to guaranty the overclockability.

OP, add Riftcat/VRidge to the resources. It's an implementation that allows you to play some VR games on your mobile device with a Headset, given that it has a gyroscope, altough some things can be done if it doesn't have one.

OP here, thanks, I've updated it.

I'll be getting a Vive tomorrow. The way that I'll have the tracking set up is in view of a very large space mirror on the wall. Do large mirrors confuse the trackers as I imagine they would? It's like a 6x4' mirror above the fireplace mantle behind me and my setup.
>>
>>62148972

The Windows based headsets such as the one Acer is developing require Windows 10 to work. Pass.
>>
>>62152378

One of the things they tell you to do is to cover all reflective surfaces such as mirrors, TVs, windows, etc. because they can cause tracking issues.

Also keep the headset out of sunlight.
>>
>>62153574
guess I need blackout curtains too. Thanks.
>>
>>62153712

Don't think you need to go that far, but direct sunlight will damage the sensors on the Vive headset.

im torn between buying a rift or a vive, dont get paid until thursday so i have some time to think about it
>>
Does VR work fine wearing glasses, and does one headset work better with glasses than another?
>>
>>62157557
The Rift is lighter (important) and cheaper than the Vive, but requires a third camera (not included) for decent room scale.

Vive has the best room-scale tracking available, but it's less comfortable and pricier. You might want to try out both before deciding.
>>
>>62157598
If your vision isn't ultra bad, you might be able to get away with not using glasses. To use glasses, you just wear the headset on top of them. The Vive has more room to fit glasses frames inside. Either way, what I recommend is to get a lens adapter if you have the money, it's a lot better than messing around with glasses and also risking scratching the headset's lenses with them.

https://vr-lens.eu/
https://widmovr.com/product/oculus-rift-prescription-lenses-adapter/

Both good options. VR Lens Lab also makes one but they've gotten bad reviews.
>>
>>62157747
You can do decent room scale with 2 cameras too as long as you set it up right with an extension cable. The third camera is mainly if you want to go bigger in size, although it does give you better quality tracking as well.
