i want to stop using gmail, and have decided to host my own email
what domain/style of name should i choose? my last name is a 5-letter noun so its long gone
I shortened mine
example: anonms.co
and I got one with one of those fancy new TLDs, although it cost 30€ instead of the usual 10€ per year
example: lastname.dicks
For the same amount of money you'd spend on a VPS (some email providers block emails originating from residential IPs) you can get ProtonMail Plus and use your own domain name.

>anonms.co
in that case would your initials be AMS?

>ProtonMail Plus and use your own domain name.
Thanks for the tip

>in that case would your initials be AMS?
well it was a bad example
more like
real name: Peter Smith
domain: petsm, pesmi, pesmt.. like that

me again
I also support the anon >>62089551 who recommended a paid email hosting. Running your own is a huge pain in the butt, both setup and maintenance. (I tried) I'm using the 2.50€/month package from mailbox.org (German provider)

in searching for a domain like that using my name i found someone who beat me to it, but i can still work around that, thank you
but would you hire me if my resume came from [email protected]?
Your own server gives you some fun options to though. Ditch dropbox and have your own ftp or even host a bookmark server.

As long as its not aol.com i think you're good anon.

Sure, that domain sounds reasonably ok

With the good email providers setting up your domain doesn't exclude running your own server as well. I pointed all of my domains' MX DNS records to my mail provider, and that's it.
