GIMP can do anything Photoshop can do but better, and for free. I'm sick and tired of these photoshop industry fat cats going around pretending like their software is so superior when GIMP can do literally anything it can do, only better and for free!

Photoshop is a goddamn globalist conspiracy to rob control from the people. I'm not going to stand by and tolerate it anymore. You gotta get GIMP! You gotta get that open-source! Here's what you do, alright. You install yourself Linux, you install yourself GIMP, and you go to town! Oh, what's that? What's that? "But I can't center text in GIMP!" Motherfucker, GIMP takes off the training wheels, alright? You're gonna be a better person when you learn how to manually center text! Get on its level! You can't trust anybody who says Photoshop is better! Don't let the globalists win! All we need is GIMP!

Couldn't agree more.

Damn dude, at least put a tiny bit of effort with your bait. BTW, latest dev versions of gimp are pretty sweet.

>>62083393
>how about you draw a circle in GIMP then
gimp was not originally designed to be a drawing program but an image manipulation program, however even if it doesn't has shape tools for drawing directly, it has shape tools for creating selections. Converting a selection into a path is one click away and you can stroke that vector path as many times as you want. gimp recently added support for the mypaint brush engine, so it's not far fetched if they add shape drawing tools in the future.

I was just baiting but I actually didn't know that was the reason, I use GIMP for quick shitty jobs that can be done easily and fast.
>>
>>62083571
How do I install the dev version?
>>
>>62083393

>maek circle
>fill with bucket
>shrink from center
>press delete

I don't know if it's just because I'm used to working in the adobe environment but GIMP is honestly barely usable.

Also I'm curious, why is inkscape barely mentioned here? It's cross-platform, free, open-source, tons of graphic designers actually use it compared to whatever GIMP's numbers are, and yet I barely see a single thread regarding it.

Yep, pic related.
Yet they added support for the mypaint brush engine which is a drawing program, being open source no one can rule out the possibility of adding more drawing capabilities in the future. For diagrams i like Libreoffice draw, for vector art inkscape seems to be a good option and for drawing try krita.

What is the paint equivalent for Linux?
>>
>>62083236
the only multimedia that is still total garbage on open source is video editing software
>>
>>62084780
maybe pinta mypaint krita or kolourpaint
>>
>>62084490
krita still fucking sucks compared to Paint Tool SAI.
>>
>>62084116
>tons of graphic designers actually use it
Yeah, no.
>no PANTONE
>SVG is shit
They got CMYK support recently. though, so that's nice.
But it's still laughable compared to Illustrator (especially with plugins) or even some trash like Affinity Designer.
>>
>>62084805
>the only multimedia that is still total garbage on open source is video editing software
yep, other tools can be described as just garbage not like completely total garbage.
But seriously, software like Audacity is the best advertisement for non-free software.
>>
>>62084929
reaper is soon to have native linux support which will give ardour some competition in the audio world too. i hate alsa and pulse audio so once reaper is native i will install it on freebsd or arch and use glorious OSS

>GIMP can do anything Photoshop can do but better
this is the biggest bullshit ive ever read

GIMP does a poor job on scalling down images while photoshop can scale it without any quality/color loss

I cant trust an image editor that cant even get that little task done

i imagine most people use it for simple illustrations for papers etc. i know a few people and do it myself, but it's confusing compared to corel 9-12 (on which i've learned). Also probably there are better/easier programs for professional work
