I do it every day, it's about the most normie thing I can imagine, saying hi to someone as you pass them, when you get better conversation you can use the casual hey to lead into a real chat. I'm not telling you to walk up to random people say "Hey." then walk away, I'm saying make eye contact with girls you pass on the street and give them the passing "Hey" "Hello" "<insert acknowledgement here>". This is how you overcome a fear of women.

Not really, it has to be some conection, even if you have never speaked with that person before. For example being on the same class or whatever. Also, after looking at her long enough you've already made a connection. So basically for aproaching random people, if there is no better way, I would go with looking at them a few times in a span of a few days (when causually meet, not stalking) and then I would say 'Hei' and maybe eventually starting a conversation (once she replies back)

What topics do I discuss? My interests are basically just physics, computers, vidya, and occasionally the news. I don't enjoy any of the mainstream activities like sports, normalfag tv/netflix shows, getting blackout drunk, smoking weed, etc.

I don't really have any issue going up to someone and saying "hey", but I can' never keep the conversation going. Even talking to other guys I can only manage bullshit small talk because I feel like we have no common interests.
Should I force myself to start watching sports and other shit just so I can talk about it?

If you don't like sports and shit then don't do it, you probably have more in common with your average guy than you think, most guys like gaming. When it comes to making friends just talk to people you think you'll have shit in common with, when it comes to girls however talk about whatever you want to, as long as you're controlling the flow of the conversation, you're good.
