>Maybourne puts the beer back and removes a wrapped floppy disk taped to the top of the fridge. He walks to the table and sits down, turning on the computer.
>MAYBOURNE: "If anyone tries to boot the computer up without this disk the whole thing fries."

Is this really possible? How would you do it?

If disk not inserted some wires are connected to the hdd, and it fries
plus 2 grub(or grub like)
1 on the disk, that boots the computer
1 on the hdd, writes the drive full of shit

Use your imagination, ffs

can't you just add a startup program that mounts sdb and checks for a filename and if it isn't there just rm rf / everything? Or can you just check for a md5 or something?
>>
>>62079493
Well yes but it wouldn't burn hot enough for data to be destroyed. Basically data in ram would stay there, the hard disks would still be okay, and all you've done is just ruin a good computer for pseudo safety.
>>
>>62079493
Yes.

How fucking dumb are you guys, like >>62079625 said.
Just have a boot diskette that you boot normally and without it, it would boot the hard drive with a timed delay, with the bootloader triggering a specific pin on the ISA/PCI slot that then triggers a controller that ignites a thermite charge around the board and drives.

>insert floppy card
>data is corrupted
>you set fire to your own desk and kill yourself like the fucking moron you are
Just take the hard drive out and smash the platter.

kek

>data is corrupted (on a perfectly fine DD floppy, kek)

>you set fire to your own desk and kill yourself like the fucking moron you are
>I didn't read the post where it said "delay" (obviously for turning off, but others won't know the delay exists)

How young are you?

Seriously now, your bait sucks, go back to /b/.

There's no need to destroy the computer, the easier way to do it would be full drive encryption and set it up such that the key is loaded from a file an external device. Even if someone asks for the key, you can explain honestly that you don't know the key and accuse the police of misplacing the thumb drive with the key on it.
>>
>>62080365
>you set fire to your own desk and kill yourself like the fucking moron you are
>a closed metal container with carefully measured amounts of thermite
>sets fire to the desk and kills you, instead of the reason why it's there, to only destroy data
wut, are you talking about if a dumbass like you would try to do something like that?
>>
>>62080580
You do realize when this was shot?
Your kiddie home computer encryption would have taken a few minutes to crack for the big boys. Specially if it had to be light enough to be able to run realtime off the same encrypted disk.
>>
>>62080314
You are still wrong, any bootable disk would work in this case. OP clearly states that without an specific disk the whole thing fries.
>>
>>62080928
Invert the thing then, instead of the hard drive bootloader triggering the thermite, it's the floppy disks boot loader that stops a already running delay.
