I'm thinking about selling this and just using a cheaper one to run my OS. If I just format it will all my data be completely gone or do I have to use some kind of software to really erase it?

SSDs can be pretty bad at retaining data. I'm not sure if a simple format actually does anything to erase data or simply sets a flag to tell the OS that nothing is there, so you can do a secure format, but don't bother doing more than one overwrite. Regular hard drives use a magnetic medium to store data, so it's possible for an imprint to exist residually even after an overwrite, but with SSDs it's just 1's and 0's, and if they're cleared, they're cleared.
