Attach the platters to a drill and sand it, or drill a bunch of holes in it (less effective, but I don't think your data is that important for someone to take the trouble).

Physicist checking in. Heat it up with anything you can find to a few 100 degrees celcius and put a permanent magnet next to the plates. Maybe the temperature alone is enough so that all the magnetic moments start to randomly order, but the permanent magnet will make sure that it happens. Let it cool down while the magnet is still there, remove magnet once you are below the boiling point of water.
