       --screenshot-png-compression=<0-9>
Set the PNG compression level. Higher means better compression. This will affect the file size of the written screenshot file and the time it
takes to write a screenshot. Too high compression might occupy enough CPU time to interrupt playback. The default is 7.

Anyone knows how I can convert a grayscale value to the RGB equivalent? Need to extract color channels from separate images to form final output by combining color data, however I do not understand how grayscale values correspond to RGB colors. The grayscale I'm working with goes from 0 to 255.

For example, I get 62 as the value of a grayscale pixel for red channel, however when I load the image in Photostop and look up the same pixel, I get grayscale percentage of 76%. How do these two correlate? Even more surprising is when I convert the image to RGB model in Photoshop and I get R value 83 on the same pixel.

I suspect there might be something wrong with the color profile conversion, as my grayscale images lack any ICCp profiles and that Photoshop magically accounts for all this and performs its own conversions. How does one go about converting from grayscale with unknown profile to something like sRGB?

I can set my monitor to one of two refresh rates, 59.994 Hz and 59.934 Hz. I use video-sync=display-resample and interpolation. Is it better to use the 59.934 mode when viewing 23.976 FPS content so it's closer to a 2.500 vsync ratio, or does it not matter?

You don't. If you don't know how the value is encoded, the value is useless.

Anyone using profile=opengl-hq on an x220? I can't play a video for more than a few minutes without my GPU and CPU getting throttled to the point that even exiting the video is a chore. I'm on Ubuntu 16.04 and I'm running a binary compiled from the latest commit as of a few days back. This issue has persisted for quite a while. I've considered it being a thermal issue, but after replacing my thermal paste I've seen no improvement, so I'm thinking maybe its a driver issue. Any advice?
>>

>You don't. If you don't know how the value is encoded, the value is useless.
I get that, but Photoshop still manages to get the right color values (more or less). I cannot find any official grayscale specification that may give a rough idea of what these values mean, so I thought someone may now here.
Wouldn't some sort of gamma guessing help convert these values?

Of course it looks the best, its a fucking original.
>Adding the scaler he used with the shaders would of being a nice addition
He used none. Its a direct 2X upscale. RAVU, nedi3, NGU, are doublers. They double resolution. If there is an overshoot then scale is used. If not then not.
>If so ravu-r2 was the best one and the only "ravu" none of them are that different
I disagree. RAVU r4 has the least errors but the most ringing. r3 and r2 has less ringing but little less sharper and have obvious errors.

       screenshot [subtitles|video|window|single|each-frame]
Take a screenshot.

Multiple flags are available (some can be combined with +):

<subtitles> (default)
Save the video image, in its original resolution, and with subtitles. Some video outputs may still include the OSD in the output
under certain circumstances.

<video>
Like subtitles, but typically without OSD or subtitles. The exact behavior depends on the selected video output.

<window>
Save the contents of the mpv window. Typically scaled, with OSD and subtitles. The exact behavior depends on the selected video out‐
put, and if no support is available, this will act like video.

<each-frame>
Take a screenshot each frame. Issue this command again to stop taking screenshots. Note that you should disable frame-dropping when
using this mode - or you might receive duplicate images in cases when a frame was dropped. This flag can be combined with the other
flags, e.g. video+each-frame.

Older mpv versions required passing single and each-frame as second argument (and did not have flags). This syntax is still understood, but
deprecated and might be removed in the future.

Setting the async flag will make encoding and writing the actual image file asynchronous in most cases. (each-frame mode ignores this flag
currently.) Requesting async screenshots too early or too often could lead to the same filenames being chosen, and overwriting each others in
undefined order.

It's more of a temporary thing. The problem is that there's no really good solution right now to compile GLSL (which mpv requires) to SPIR-V (which vulkan requires).

The only thing out there is `glslang` and it's a massive piece of shit, so we've decided to not use it. (At least not in its current form). Nvidia has a vendor-specific extension (VK_NV_glsl_shader) that allows you to load GLSL code in vulkan, but nobody else does. So that's the status quo.

Most major features working... some stuff that doesn't:

- push constants don't scale, we're already exceeding the limit in some cases. Need to redesign to use UBO, or perhaps a mixture of UBOs and PCs
- scaler LUTS don't work (need 32->16 float texture upload path)
- resizing swapchain too fast can cause it to segfault
- needs AMD performance testing w.r.t image layouts

potential improvements:
- startup and shutdown is much slower (than opengl) because the allocator doesn't chunk allocations
- memory barriers could be refined
- code duplication between vo_vulkan and vo_opengl that needs to be solved before this is ready for master
- async transfer/compute? (the current design doesn't allow it that well, but it could be done)
- threaded garbage collection / allocation?
>>

>>62034196
No, just srt files
>>
>>62034333
blend-subtitles is an option in your mpv configuration. If you have it, the subtitles can't go in the letterbox.
>>
>>62034396
Oh ok, found it in a mess of --vo option copied. Thanks!

How to start using the greatest media player of all time:
Uninstall your fucking trash operating system
Install macOS
Download IINA
>>
>>62034806
iina is a frontend for mpv

Why use MPV when mplayer2 does literally everything?

Is MPV a CIA malware vector or something, is that why it gets shilled here all the time?
>>
>>62013121
how do I 'fix' this?
I try to stream from my NAS
>>
>>62035381
I have no idea what afp is, can't you get a http or https url to the video?
>>
>>62035181
mplayer2 authors created mpv by removing shit acculated in mplayer, at least know your history
>>
>>62035411
this is how elemtary os maps a network drive, couldn't figure out yet if I can pull an actual URL from my files
>>
>>62035412
but mplayer2 is still being developed

My uncle has a NAS and he hosts it online so he can access it from everywhere.

I assume if you're in the same network you can access it by 192.168.0.XXX in your browser, then see if you get a link for your files.

I never tried anything with network drives, if it doesn't work ask on the mpv irc.
>>
>>62035465
whom and where? mplayer2 was turned into mpv and even the distros shipping it turned back to regular mplayer because work was ceased on it years ago.
>>
>>62033392
Oh. Very much, thank you anon.
>>
Is there anything specific one should take into account with a config if you are playing x265 encodes (2160p releases, native x265)
>>
>>62035381
Just make your files open like a open directory is all you have to do, just password protect it I guess and put user:pass on url.
>>
do you guys use gpu or processor to render
>>
mpv doesnt respond to my side buttons anymore, is it my mouse issue or mpv's issue?

they also dont let me seek with my scroll wheel anymore when the pointer is at the seeker bar, previous version allows this but not the latest one

which one of you faggot dev decide to ruin a good shit with your shitty ass design?
>>
>>62036020
that's what I did with >>62035381

>>62035532
sharing file links will give you a link where you can download the file, so no direct link to the file itself
>>
>>62036350
That link does not look like one of the open directories I am talking about
>>
>>62036420
that's the way I did on Windows where it was mapped as network drive, I'm trying the same now on linux.
bare with me this is only my second day with linux
>>
>>62035930
>x265 encodes
Dont do that.
>>
>>62036496
why not?
>>
>>62036496
There are some native 4K HEVC rips from Netflix because for a short time they could be decrypted.
>>
>>62036524
(they're also fucking 15Mbps, Netflix encodes are a goddamn joke)
>>
>>62036496
>x265 is bad
Is google paying you?

>video: change --deinterlace behavior
maybe this clears up some of the deinterlacing confusion from earlier?
>>
>>62036731
Hopefully it works like the other anons said they barely use it so it's not like it matters, neither I use it too, but it's good to have it in there just in case.
>>
>>62036971
You can always use most ffmpeg filters through the lavfi bridge. This includes deinterlacers other than yadif, like nnedi3.
>>
Why should I use Linux?
Is it only because opengl runs better on Linux?
>>
No smoothtest1/smoothtest2 comparisons? :(
https://github.com/bjin/mpv-prescalers/wiki/Comparison
>>
>>62037921
diy
>>
>>62037921
I tested and smoothtest1 has the same errors as in regular ravu r2, r3. Less ringing though.
>>
>>62037903
Is ravu-r3 really better than ngu-aa medium?
They are equally fast/slow.
>>
>>62037921
What's so different about smoothtest version?
>>
>>62038167
Less ringing artifacts, but haasn is using scale-clamp=0.5 to fix this with regular ravu.
>>
>>62032817
Stop it; use the GPU shader version of NNEDI3 - not the vapoursynth filter. VS sucks anyway
>>
>>62033178
Great! Now if only we had a replacement
>>
>>62038270
VS nnedi3 is actually faster than the shader on my machine. Much less flexible though.
