Found this old portable analog tv in a box. It still works fine on the radio side but the tv portion of it doesn't work obviously. Does /g/ have any ideas on how to get it to run digital channels? I've heard references to the external antenna port and the headphone port somehow connecting that to a converter box but I have no idea how to do that. Is it possible to save this shitty black &and white tv /g/?
>>
Google digital converter box, they even sell them at Walmart. Cute tv.
>>
You literally just buy a digital TV tuner box and plug it into the TV and an antenna. You may need a balun if the TV doesn't have a coax connection on the back.

No coax just an external antenna port and headphone port like I said. Here's a pic of the back if it helps

Yeah it was pretty comfy to bring on camping trips and watch the flickery screen in a tent.
>>
its black and white though so whats the point. i had one, used to use it with my ps1 after i broke the portable screen it came with.

You're going to have to solder in a composite jack. Dumping some pics from the last time I did it.

I opened it up and started looking for the demolulator out. This usually has some variable inductors nearby. I found a KA2913A chip and googled it.

Google brought up a datasheet that told me where the demodulated video signals were. It isn't always this easy. My backup plan was to first identify the high voltage points on the PCB with a multimeter then poke the safe areas with composite output until I saw something.

Soldered in the composite signals. Only the video wire is in this picture. You need to hook up ground too. You also want to cut the demolulator that used to run to this point. It works even if you don't but it can cause static.

TV working with composite input.

BTW even small TVs can give you a painful shock. Discharge them by running a wire from a screwdriver to metal near the front of the screen and sliding the screwdriver under the suction cup.

Thanks for the guide. Is there really no other way though? I'm not really all that confident in my ability to open it up and solder it myself since I have no experience with anything like that. I don't want to break it.

It's a broken black and white TV. What do you want to use it for?
>>
>>62007718
The other option is to buy a UHF modulator and a coax to antenna adapter. Probably cost at least $30.
>>
>>62007750
It's not broken it's just analog and can't pick up the digital signals. I want it mostly out of nostalgia honestly. It would also be a pretty comfy thing to have in my home. I like the aesthetics.

not broken, and having an antenna port means it's still good for super old computers and vidya that output a RF modulated signal instead of composite
>>
>>62007960
Didn't know that. Any examples? I could probably do that now if I have something compatible.
>>
>>62008217
The NES and pretty much everything older only had coax out. You can connect that to an external antenna input with an adapter that costs a couple bucks (It's really just a resistor).
>>
>>62007806
If your not confident in converting it to digital yourself, take it to a tv repair shop and shell out some money to modernize it for you. There must be someone around your area that can do it.
>>
Is digital television botnetted? I know analog tv was completely unbotnetted, and the only reason I can imagine for TV broadcasting switching from analog to digital is so we can be spied on more.
>>
>>62008344
Dang that's pretty neato I'm going to have to try that out.

there's also a couple of retro computers like the pre-spectrum Sinclair machines that only output in monochrome, so you're not losing any functionality using a b+w tv. also Pong machines.
>>
>>62006946
I have one just like it. Its a 5 inch b&w analog television. Mine was a different brand though. Funny thing is that I got the digital channels for no more than 10 bucks. It took looking for the right parts though, around swap meets, yard sales, attics, etc. all you need is one of those external antenna to coaxial jack, so that you can connect a digital converter box and sum shit like that.
