Hey bros,
I'm a bit of a retard when it comes to networking.
So I'm trying to upgrade to 10GbE from 1GbE since I do a lot of file transfers (video) from my Dell server to my main edit PC.
Should I get pic related dual Intel x520 and another single port Intel card and run a 20ft sfp?
Is it that simple?
Any brand recommends and models?

wew
Is that the amount of porn you have been "transferring" lately?

As long as the SFP's (also referred to as a Gbic) are the same speed/type, and the card(s) support said SFP's, and the fiber cable is the rated for correct speed that the SFP's use.
Kind of a pain in the ass to do all this though.

Thanks anon.
I went with the Jewtel x540-T2 with 20ft CAT6a for server and a x540-T1 for the receiving PC.
All under $300. Not too damn bad desu desu.
Can't believe prices have fallen so much over the last 2 years for 10GbE.
Was worth the wait.

Dual E5-2650, 128GB RAM, in the pic it has 5x Intel X520 and one Intel x540 onboard. Some LSI 12g SAS HBA. I wasnt using it at the time, now it only has 2x X520s and 2 HBAs, 4x 480GB Seagate 600 Pros, 8x Seagate 4TB Terascales and is the 2nd node in my vSphere cluster.
Have you considered bonding interfaces together, implementing jumbo/giant frames, or tweaking SMB a bit?
