Where is Raven Ridge /g/?

How man of you are like me, waiting on the new APUs to roll out and snatch a new laptop?

general /W4RR/ thread

No. Fuck off AMD shills.

Raven Ridge laptops will be out for holiday season, confirmed by Q2 2017 earning conference
>>
ETA: Q3 2017

If the leaks are to be believed than we will see double the single/multi core cpu performance compared to carrizo and ~40% more raw GPU performance.

All this combined with higher bandwidth 3200 MHz DDR4 RAM will mean about 2X the FPS in most vidya out there.

It will shit all over anything intel has but to be honest it won't be replacing dedicated gpus in gaming laptops. At best I can see 40-60 FPS on medium 1080p settings in games like BF4.
>>
>>61935062
man I hope all of this comes true, or better.

I just want the ultimate latop for $600-$700
Do you think this year is the year, bros?
>>
>>61935251
>Do you think this year is the year, bros?
Hopefully yeah, dual-core processors and shitty "HD" intel graphics have been plaguing the laptop world for long enough.
>>
I really they dont fuck up.
I really want to buy a new laptop but they are either shit or they got the fucking gayming thing
>>
>>61934682
Anything with AMD in laptop = instant shit and overheating plus expensive.
>>
>>61935561
>he doesn't know about the i9 nuclear warfare

Get with the times, Gramps. In the CPU department Intel is the actual Housefire(tm)
>>
>>61935639
Shut up, Brian.
>>
I hope that Microsoft and Apple make the inteligent decision to release a Raven Ridge Surface Pro/SurfaceBook/Macbook Pro
>>
>>61935632
There is no i9 in a laptop, so your argument falls apart.
>>
>>61935639
this is like passive agressive sarcastic shitposting with an actual opinion behind all that shit.

not bad 6/10 for innovation
>>
>>61935062
>but to be honest it won't be replacing dedicated gpus in gaming laptops
Its good enough, gaming laptops run hot and are expensive, a consumer grade (or at least mid level) laptop providing a major part of the gaming laptop's performance is great
>>
>>61935667
Yeah, cause Intel shitty arquitecture can't scale.

no "only available in 15 inch 1366x768" laptops this time AMD please
>>
>>61935753
AMD can't force OEMs to follow shitty meme specs.
>>
>>61934682
I was going to buy a T470 but now I'm gonna wait for the A475. It will be a good Christmas. :)
>>
>>61935561
Hello brazil.

>>61935632
>>61935667
I actually found the intel OEM bribery thing to be real. I purchased a $600 A10-5750M HP laptop about 3 years ago. Right off the bat is was a laggy overheating piece of shit that would sometimes bsod during gaymen and battery life was abhorrent. However the temps were very suspicious. I'd get 140°F while web browsing and 120°F idling.

So I did some investigating and here's what I found:
There was crumbly white TIM under the heatsink overflowing into the die itself but in the center there was none and it was moist.

In the RAM slots there was a 4GB stick and another 2GB stick from different manufacturers and different timings and both were 1033 MHz DDR3 sticks. When I ran a RAM benchmark I could only pull 8.3GB/s.

The battery was also suspiciously small, only 32 Whr (for a 35W TDP CPU, dafuq?). Most I could get was 30 minutes of gaymen.

In msconfig there were like 30 fucking startup items, most bloatware.

Anyway cleaned the old TIM with rubbing alcohol, put brand new AS5, replaced the 2 RAM sticks with 4x2 1600 MHz of the same company and timings, installed a 3rd party 70 Whr extended battery, and installed a clean OEM copy of windows 7 SP1.

All that got me 1-2 hours of gaymen on battery, better performance (~2X more FPS in most games), and now the highest temp I got was ~140°F while running prime95 and ~80°F idling.

Will intel bribe OEMs to use shitty TIM, RAM that can't into dual-channel, and load truckloads of bloatware before selling the laptop to you? Probably.
>>
Oh yeah RAM bandwidth went up to 25.5 GB/s for anyone that cares.
>>
>>61935791

If google can release their own android phones, then AMD can try to release an end user product that isn't shit.
>>
>>61935881
Maybe HP is just a shitty company aha
>>
>>61936017
That's what I thought at first too but it doesn't feel right. HP went the extra mile to make sure my experience left me with a very bad taste in my mouth. I mean the TIM was fucking overflowing like 1/2 inch into one side of the die and they could have at least used 1033 MHz RAM that supported dual-channel mode.

It seems like more than manufacturer incompetence was happening here and intel has had a long track record of not playing fair. At one point they bribed OEMs so much they couldn't accept AMD CPUs for free.
>>
>>61935881
>>61936094
Fucking Intel if all that's really their doing. I really wanted my next laptop to have Ryzen. I don't think I can buy Intel parts anymore even if AMD would suck. I'd just have to stop buying anything.
>>
>>61936094
HP's Intel laptop overheats like nothing else too. HP's consumer line just suck in general, but their pro line are fine.
>>
>>61934682
only if it comes in a thinkpad with a good keyboard.

You're better off building your own mini-itx desktop anyway. I plan on making mine with a raven ridge desktop APU and mounting it to the back of a monitor.

Something like pic related. A 160 watt pico PSU should be more than enough for even an OC'd raven ridge at 4 GHz anyway.
>>
>>61936272
How do you fit a RAM stick in there? Or a hard drive? That motherboard doesn't look like it has M.2
>>
>>61936599
Ram stick without heat spreaders going to fit just fine and most of the modern itx motherboards has m2 on backside.
>>
>>61936643
Is m2 that old? That's an LGA1156 board.
>>
>>61936806
It's been out since like 2013 so yeah. Time goes by fast man.
>>
>>61934682
> since Raven Ridge is 4-core/8-threads max, it won't have that sweet multi-core advantage over Intel like what's happening on desktop
> While Ryzen is very efficient, Vega is proving to be power hungry, and we don't know how it will compete against Intel on that matter. No idea how it will scale down as well.
I don't believe in AMD's slides on anything related to Vega, they lied a lot.
I bet my ass it will only compete against dual core i7's, and will barely beat Iris Plus Graphics, meaning no revolution in this topic. No BF4 at 1080p medium like some anon said.
>>
>>61936272
What case is that?
>>
>>61936965
Duno, I just chose a random mini-itx case image but they're starting to pop up more and more as the muh thinness meme intensifies.
>>
>>61937036
Found it, Silverstone PT13.
>>
>>61936896
>It willbarely beat Iris Plus Graphics

but that's pretty much the only thing it has to beat to become the best iGPU.
>>
>>61935062
>It will shit all over anything intel has
>no full hw vp9 decoding
>>
>>61937113
Source? Also doesn't UVD 6.3 already in the rx 5XX series already have VP9 decoding?
>>
>>61937113
It depends on how efficient the hybrid mode is. We already know Zen is more efficient than whatever Intel's got. Vega embedded is somewhat of a mystery.
>>
>>61937113
We don't even know what UVD version raven ridge is getting you dumb fuck.
>>
Reminder AMD showed D44M running on a Zen APU at E3 2016.
>>
>>61938153
source?
>>
>>61938153
I'm trying to find evidence that was an APU and not just a Ryzen CPU and I can't find any. Sources?

>>61938187
They never specified, but what the fuck would be the point of showing off that your CPU can run a game most CPUs from half a decade ago can run?
>>
>>61938247
>half a decade ago
are you a marketer? that's just 5 years, don´t get so dramatic.
