Hey /g/. I am looking for modern mobile phone (NOT smartphone) that has same feature that good old Siemens phones had: easy access and modification of firmware. By "modern" I mean:
- must be available new from local shops/retailers
- must have microUSB charging
That's practically all I ever need. I don't need internet, color screen, 9000 gigapixel camera, etc, etc. But I want to take firmware dump, load it in IDA Pro, study it, make adjustments, create patch, apply - just as in good old days.
Is there any such phone available? Preferably with ARM processor, but I'm fine with any. Or maybe I should just solder microUSB to one of my old Siemenses (and lose the ability to patch it offline, because there is USB2COM adapter required for this)?
Just get a smartphone mate. Don't be afraid of change, they're objectively superior. There are plenty of smartphones with physical keyboards, before you make that argument

>they're objectively superior
They are better in some respects but not all, battery life being one area in which they are inferiror.
It might be argued that they are overall better phones, but it can also be argued that they are overall worse for your mental development.

Look into a brand called Evolveo. Don't have enough information to say if it has what you want for sure, but worth a peek.

Well, bro, I have smartphone (and I'm using it just now, typing this message). In reality, I tried several smartphones (Androids, Lumia, iPhone) with more or less luck. But I just WANT a phone described, that's all. Nothing logical.

Hmm, I can't find any info about their phones being able to provide firmware dump and modification of it (weird sentence, lol). There are many mods, but only for Android smartphones.

Samsung E1200
Price: 20-30$

Android.

And what are you planning to "adjust" in a brick that can only make calls.

Use them as dumbphones and they last just as long, if not more. Considering you have no bloatware, obviously.

Thanks, but it's phones list with no info about their firmware. AFAIK with Nokia's S30/S40 it's only possible to modify resources (text, images, etc), but not code. Much more doubt about others.

OK. It seems that Samsung phones are open to firmware mods, there are even large community of patchwriters. Definitely should look into them, tnx.

> Android.
Nonono. I've been a Linux enthusiast for more than a decade, and Android user/modder/programmer since 1.6 or so. It's goddamn ugly, overcomplicated and buggy. Writing code in C/Assembler for Siemens was much more simple and fun.

Just look into old Siemens forums. There were so many things that I can't even describe, being ELFLoader (patch that gives ability to load external binaries) is probably one of the most cool.
isnt the firmware encrypted on those?

New 3310 is S30-based.

On Siemens? Nope.
