>watching movie
>have to turn down the volume during action scenes because they're too loud
>have to turn up the volume during dialogue because it's too quiet
Same shit on every single TV I ever owned, even with 5.1 external speakers, regardless of setting.
How to fix this?
>>61913829
You could use a compressor / limiter.
>>61913829
Have you tried killing yourself?
>>61913829
Shoot the directors that think it's a good idea to do that.
In the meantime, you need a dynamic range compressor in your signal chain.

*af=acompressor in mpv
VLC has a decent compressor if you don't have any better options. Movies are basically unwatchable without a compressor these days.

>Shoot the directors that think it's a good idea to do that.
Pretty sure it's not the directors, same thing happens during TV shows with lots of noise.

So a compressor is a kind of software?
How would you use it in a bluray player?
>>61913944
>So a compressor is a kind of software?
It can be software but there are also hardware compressors.

look for "night mode" in the audio settings of your devices
>>61913996
Oh trust me, night mode is all I ever used on any of the TVs I ever owned.
Look for something similar to dynamic normalization on your TV, most new sets have it. Older sets have it poorly implemented though.

You are watching a Swedish Action Movie ?

make the center speaker a bit louder.

Blame Hollywood.
I use subtitles whenever available when watching English movies, I just can't make out the murmuring of these actors.

I used to have it watching Top Gear on my old Sony back in 2006.

Just buy a new TV.

a compressor just brings all audio up to or down to the same level, but you can tweak it so it holds the audio for longer, or lets it go sooner, that way it's not all *exactly* the same volume, but has peaks and troughs.
i know exactly what you mean though, i especially hate commercials: they are compressing all the audio to be exactly the same level, and it sucks because even though it's not actually louder than the loudest thing that comes through your TV at that volume, because every slice of the audio is exactly the same loud volume, it appears *even louder*
solution: find a compressor online that you can run on your tv or computer, or in between your speakres and tv (idk where to find such a thing) and then put it at a mid range setting, then tweak it until it feels good to listen to
Is there a compressor for Kodi/XBMC?
Only problem i have is the fucking bass. Why do directions have a boner for bass?

Buy a current TV.
Every TV I've owned in the past decade has had great volume normalization.

My current TV is like 3 years old.
