DDG isn't completely private (protip - none of them are, not even startpage which still sends anonymous data to google), but it's probably one of the better ones outside of Google, Bing, and Yayhow. People don't trust it because the guy who owns DDG iirc owned a website where he eventually sold the userdata to a company which purchased it later, or something along the lines of that.

Honestly /g/ has asperger's so if you're using DDG you're probably fine compared to the normies using Google for everything. I am being a reasonable man and trying to walk a fine line, which I know autists don't appreciate.

You could host your own Yacy or searx.me instance and take your searches completely off the grid as it were. I mean, it's still possible to figure out what you're searching for forensically, but nobody is going to jump through those hoops to sling a few ads.

Also they have better quality results than DDG, which isn't saying much. You pretty much have to leave the English speaking world to do worse.

I installed yacy 2 month ago and the results are garbage.
I did not crawled activly, i only used the crowdsourced index. Its shit.
I searched for a few things to test it. Dog, penis, etc..
When you search for dog the results are not generic, they are very specific for a lot of dog related things. The wikipedia Dog page was not even listed.
Most of the indexed sites are german.

While im writing this i got an idea.
I will install yacy again this night. And i will feed the crawler with my own browser history, my rss feed subscriptions and some tech related news site. The browser will follow links on these sites so the index should be pretty good for ME.
Oh, i will not share my index with the p2p network because my index will be very personized.
