>thinking about building a new computer with a Ryzen processor
>Zen 2 comes out next year and will be 2 process nodes smaller than the current Ryzen processors, or as much of a difference as between the FX line and Ryzen
Should I keep waiting?
I will be, just because I don't like buying the first generation of anything. It usually ends up being a case where I pay the company's bills for them to iron out the mistakes for the lucky second generation buyers.
nah, just get the one you really need right now and upgrade once ryzen 2 matures
R3 1200 for gaymen, general purpose computing and R5 1700 for multi-tasking.

Wait till next year and then buy a Ryzen cheaper. It's the only thing to do if you're not a tool.
>>61892874
AM4 platform will still be around, just do a CPU upgrade.

The fuck is Zen 2 even going to be at that point? A 5 GHz 16C/32T as the new AM4 based performance consumer model? The difference between the FX-8350 and R7-1800X was already massive.

Reminder that Ryzren CPUs cause segfaults under heavy load making them essentualy worthless for anyone actually planning to use them.

>AMD was also able to confirm this issue is not present with AMD Epyc or AMD ThreadRipper processors, but isolated to these early Ryzen processors under Linux.
>Ryzen customers believe to be affected by the problem can contact AMD Customer Care. Some of those who have contacted customer care about the segmentation faults have in turn been affected by thermal, power, or other problems, but AMD says they are committed to working with those encountering this performance marginality issue under Linux.

I'm interested in this as well, given the numbers for the 7nm manufacturing process.
>The company’s 7 nm fabrication process is projected to bring over a 40% frequency potential over the 14LPP manufacturing technology that GlobalFoundries uses today, assuming the same transistor count and power
>The tech will also reduce the power consumption of ICs by 60% at the same frequency and complexity.
>according to the foundry the actual die cost reduction will be in the range between 30% and 45% depending on application.

Threadripper performance in an AM4 socket with room for overclocking in the $500-$600 range isn't that outrageous of a prediction.

Zen 2 better be fucking great

I wonder how much power they could get out of a 15W TDP Zen 2 processor. The idea of using a passively cooled desktop that's actually decently powerful really turns me on.

It still is unstable

Zen 2 and Zen 3 are going to be compatible with AM4 and X370. Just buy now, wait until Zen 3 is released, and drop that in.
>>61892874
I went ahead and got the 1700 now, and will likely swap it out when Zen 2 shows up if it's better in any major way.
Should be easy to resell the 1700 anyway.
buy it now if you need to, wait if you dont

thats zen+
zen 2 is god knows when
