My old EliteBook came with a 1920x1080 display and a 7200RPM HDD. Thankfully, due to it not being a shitty Apple product, I can change that HDD out for an SSD without any problems.
The only problem with it is that the battery life isn't fantastic, but mind you, it has an old SB i7, and I typically never have to use it somewhere that I can't just charge the laptop.

Managed to "find" a macbook pro at my uni, its great for typing and watching videos, but that's about it.

Despite having an 2.3ghz i7, 8gb ram, and an SSD it still gets hot constantly when doing the lightest of tasks, even browsing. It also has a shit battery life despite minimizing battery use.

It was nice to get familiar with OSX but i would never buy a macbook at full price.

Oh, no, the Stable Mac meme is 100% true. Windows isn't optimized for shit; it's designed to run on as many devices as possible. So basically Windows machines need goliath specs just to barely function, which is why Windows often crashes a shitload after a few updates.
This is where macOS has the advantage. macOS is optimized only to run on macbooks, so the end result is much smoother by comparison. The only problem is that this gives Apple way too much control over their own devices, but god damn it's smooth as fuck
