I found that setting a fixed bedtime for myself and setting an alarm so I wake up at the same time every morning was a great way to wake up feeling refreshed. Help your Thinkpad fix its sleep schedule that way and it should wake up reliably and perform well all day.

It's in the options settings, it has nothing to do with putting it to sleep. It has to do with putting it to sleep and closing it, most shitty computers have that functionality. Simply going through the options and finding the same place where you see "Power button instantly shuts off comp" or some shit like that will deliver your solution.

I used to get this problem on older (XP) notebooks. The solution was to disable hibernation so it would only go into suspend mode. I don't know if there's an equivalent for Windows 10.
