Ryzen is perfect, powerful, cheaper, low TDP. The only issue are the gaymers
>>
Zen2 chips with higher base clocks in the range of 4ghz~ are going to really rock intel across the board.

Even a moderate IPC uplift combined with higher baseclocks is going to eat up intel's marginal serial performance lead. Intel is losing ground and management is crumbling internally.

Threadripper is a repurposed MCM enterprise part. It isn't a single die chip like Ryzen.

You are incorrect. Ryzen, Threadripper and Epyc all come from the zen architcture made up of various amounts of zepplin dies but they are all seperate entities.

Actually, the reason why AMD did split like this is that chip price don't scale linearly with the size as one may guess due yield failures with larger dies.
We can't shrink the transistors as easily anymore, so you either use multiple smaller dies to make a larger chip, OR you can try your luck with mammoth low yield monstrosities.

did this segfault ever happen to you? its a linux specific problem only happening at max load all core usage. cap usage at no segfaults

suprise the mobos are made by ... wait for it... manufacturers! what does amd have to do with them? you gotta ask them to deliver.

>>
>>61817498
>But the segfaulting has been confirmed on opteron-zenver1 chips already?
It hasn't. Phoronix called that statement back, and the tool is trash to begin with because it segfaults on other CPUs too. There is a bug on some early desktop ryzen chips, none that were produced after march seem to be affected. Threadripper and epyc are not affected at all
>>
>>61817508
IT87 doesn't provide cpu (and especially not specific core) temps, only vrm, sb and unstandard 'cpu' temp and without correct marginals (which are not yet available for latest it87 revisions), they are useless.
For example, correct marginals for the the it87 io chip on 990FXA-UD3 rev.4 are included (at least kernel 3.10 and newer), as are the ones for the it87 io on GA-PA67-UD7-B3.

Yes, it is happening to me on 1700x@stock with C6H and Taichi (with 2x8gb Samsung b-die ddr4 modules). And yes, I've connected AMD support and they're not co-operative when all basic points are checked (cooling, latest uefi/w latest agesa, etc.)
Either way, tomorrow we know for sure, if B2 stepping used on threadnigger chips provides fix.
>>
61817557
>Phoronix called that statement back, and the tool is trash to begin with because it segfaults on other CPUs too. There is a bug on some early desktop ryzen chips, none that were produced after march seem to be affected. Threadripper and epyc are not affected at all
This was posted on anandtech forums and .....amd subreddit, not phoronix. That 'trash of a tool' doesn't cause segfaults on my FX-8350, 2500k or 3930k for example. And neither does any workload either. No matter which gcc version, what kernel version, segfaulting happens on my during multiple make operations randomly.
>>
>>61817642
Now that's what i call shitposting.
>>
>>61817508
And where exactly did I point that trashy mobos originate from AMD? And they do in part, because of AMD flashy 'gayming' marketing, mobo manufacturers are (fairly logically) complementing it with flashy 'gayming' trash.
>>
>>61817498
>Update [5 August]: As a result of feedback, currently working on some updated results. As some have pointed out, the conftest segmentation faults aren't specific to Ryzen, so updating the tests to avoid confusion.

It segfaults on everything, not just Ryzen. Phoronix got a lot of flak for spreading this FUD w/o any serious testing.

https://github.com/suaefar/ryzen-test
This is tool and it causes segfaults on my 1700x, but not on my FX-8350, 2500k, 3930k etc.

And that is besides the point: the segfaulting happens at random during multiple make operations (in other words: compiling, encoding with ffmpeg) on my 1700x (both on Crosshair and Taichi, 2x8gb ribjaws5, latest uefi with 1.0.0.6 agesa, smt enabled or not), but not on my fx8350, 2500k or 3930k (on 990fxa-ud3 rev4, sabertooth r2.0, 2500k on p8p67 deluxe and 3930k on p9x79-e ws).
>>
>>61810976
And at what wattage? 400+
>>
>>61817880
The point is the conftest was a red herring, AMD replied and said it doesn't effect Epyc or TR. Contact AMD customer service if you have the issue.
>>
>>61817880
And what the fuck, AMD 'confirms' that 'some minority bullshit' problem exists (and quite likely it happens on the first stepping, which are probably shipped to retailer: I bought my 1700x on mid-June and it atleast isn't b2 stepping) and yet you're damage controlling here to the fullest?
I don't give a shit if if it's fixed on new stepping, if I don't get one exchanged for free. Intel fixed the P67 sata problem by recalling all P67 mobos and paid full expenses resulting in free exchanges for customers. If this is not fixed by microcode, what will AMD do?
