It's the kind of computer that can inspire awe in me the same way the octocore mac pro did when I was still using a celeron 2.4ghz based on pentium 4. It really does live up to the mac pro name in that regard.
The fact that they got it into an imac chassis is awesome to some and a total deal breaker to others.
It's not a personal computer. You buy it because it makes you money. It would probably just be replaced by a newer model anyway.
I think it's awesome.

Why even bother with an iMac when you could just use a regular pc? I seriously don't want to be rude but MacOS isn't any more user friendly, unless you need to use a trackpad, which isn't something you need to do on desktop. Plus those low profile keyboards drive me insane, just as a tangent.

You literally can't compare them. The Z1 G3 is an 1151 system.

Macs have a 7-8% marketshare, and it's mostly in post production and the arts (ie graphic design, illustration, etc).

I have literally no idea what you're trying to say. Drawing dicks on your Cintiq doesn't require 18 cores, ECC RAM, or workstation graphics, so how does this support your argument that Apple is going to compete well with who they're obviously trying to compete with?

The iMacs have always used heatpipes to transfer heat off the CPU and GPU to the heatsink.
The big problem here is that those are not giant heatpipes and there are only two for an 8 to 18 core CPU.

That's a lot of heat that they need to be able to transfer. At least there are now two fans, but the heatsink looks no bigger than the previous generations so my bets are throttling under any sustained load.
>>
>>61808487

i can tell no one here has ever done any real editing before, because you wouldnt edit or even scrub 4k video directly (well, not until recently).

here is how editing works: the hi res footage is compressed into standard def copies, which are then loaded in and edities with. this allows fast previews / edits, and a sane use of system resources.

when the edit is final, these 'proxy' files are simply replaced with the hires footage and a master / production render is made (which is then compressed for delivery, say broadcast or bluray).

using this approach, you can edit and render any resolution you want to, as long as you can fit the video on disk. only recently have production suites been able to realtime edit uncompressed hidef footage, and even then they require some fairly pricy hardware.

source: editor/compositor with imdb credits. suck my ass, faggots.
