I know but does sailfish still allow you to make calls and text messages as you normally could? does it have a non botnet version of google maps? will any non gaymen related features be compromised if I install it?

it runs the google API to run android apps
but you don't have to run android apps
so the answer is yes to all of those but it probably won't work on your phone.
