Know what I can also do it on ?
A tablet. I can also read ebooks and PDFs comfortably in portrait orientation on my tablet with its 4:3 screen. Or do most other things that I'd otherwise use my laptop for, in a smaller package.

People buy tablets because they have a job to be done that a tablet does better than any other
option.
Same reason that most people finally realize that a hammer is not the best way of putting screws in. It may work buy it isn't optimal.

I find them to be really good "placeable" devices. For low cost I can litter them around and get some computer functionality there. Laptops are too expensive and sometimes actually less convenient for those functions. Smartphones are fine but often too small, and while I could use my own that's not great for supporting other users. Plus splitting the battery charge over multiple devices conserves the one I need for my personal uses.

iPads make really good music production tools. Lots of software and midi syncing/modulation options between apps. Not to mention they can use outboard gear.
