Hey /g/, I have a question, it'd really help me out if someone who knows a lot about smartphones/imei's could help me out.
I have an old iPhone 5S that I used to use on t-mobile, it's running 8.4 and it's jailbroken. Long story short I ran into some trouble and couldn't pay the bill (whoops) so they blocked the imei number until I paid them, which I won't be able to do for a while cuz it's like 1k and I'm busy paying off other shit.
Question being: since it's jailbroken, is there a way to either A) change the imei number (without breaking the law preferably) or B) is the imei block per carrier? Meaning, if I bought a pre-paid simcard from another carrier, would it work?

I have an android phone now that I use, but it seems like a waste to let this thing just sit on my desk and was wondering if I could give it to a friend or something or if it's literally trash at this point.

None, only t-mobile will work on a t-mobile sim.
If you put in a sim from another carrier, it might work on that network.

The IMEI is tied to your device, not SIM card. Nowadays it's burned into the phone with a laser so you can't really change it unless you happen to be an expert in laser engraving.

I couldn't find anyway to do it that didn't involve me sending it to some shady Indian. the phone is jailbroken so if there's an easy way to spoof imei please let me know.

T-Mobile is GSM, someone correct me if I'm wrong but you should be able to get an AT&T sim and it'll work.
