Why didn't they teach programming in schools in the 1980s like the leaders of the home computing revolution wanted?
>>
Because computers were fucking expensive.
>>
>>61713456
Because all they want is cheap labor
>>
>>61713456
It was for losers at the time

They could have made a raspberry pie equivalent

They did, and those too were fucking expensive.
>>
They teach programming in schools now? Lmao what a wasted time for a hobby with no real exercise or return
>>

they taught us BASIC which is incredible useless

I do wonder when retards like you will realize that it doesn't fucking matter if you teach it in schools. Knowing what a for loop is won't help you, you actually have to WANT to be a programmer and WANT to spend your free time doing it. And people who WANT to be programmers figure it out by them selves.
>>
>>61714699
What is exposure? Most people don't know what they want or what they're good at.
>>
>>61713456
>Why didn't they teach programming in schools in the 1980s

Why don't they teach programming in schools in 2017?
>>
>>61714747
its the public schools job to teach you timeliness, respect, and culture. not give you a career
>>
>>61714699
I think a lot more people will want to become programmers when they learn to make phone apps in highschool.

Also, self-taught programmers are generally shit.
You should ideally learn it in University.
>>
>>61714699
>Knowing what a for loop is won't help you
Programming should be useful in automatisation of some aspects of work.
Then again, people just give money to programmers and ask to do the job.
>>
>>61714859
>You should ideally learn it in University
Have you programmed Haskell today?
>>
>>61713465
Schools were still too white. It would have been a waste of federal and state funding. The real talent didn't start coming of age until the mid-90s.
>>
>>61714816
>its the public schools job to teach you timeliness, respect, and culture.
lol @ u grandpa

Ur not going to learn about any of those things unless you want to :^)
>>
>>61714898
Name one relevant programming language created by a person who isn't white.
>>
>>61714897
No, but learning LISP taught me to view functions as yet another data structure.

Also I don't hack together shit like the average npm kiddie.

U wot? Public schools have had specialized programs for careers for fucking decades now ranging from simple classes such as metalworking to advanced magnet programs. My old high school had a law program, for example.
>>
>>61713456
Schools are not equipped to teach modern things.
I have had computers throughout my life (been in school since 1996) and back then teachers would tell us to restart the computer if someone hit caps lock.
Throughout school, we were taught how to write a document and how to use excel, but nothing more than that.

If you look at the rest of the curriculum, we weren't taught anything past the 1600s in mathematics and physics, the songs we were taught in music were more than 100 years old, the most recent things we were taught in history were WWII, etc.
Programming is simply too new a field for anyone to develop a curriculum suited for kids.

I think it is a mixture of lack of talented people who would rather teach children than make money and lack of need for children to know about programming.

Maybe the latter is underestimated.
Maybe it is overestimated.
In my opinion everything would be improved by atomization, but I also realize that everyone is not suited for programming.

>we weren't taught anything past the 1600s in mathematics and physics,
So you weren't taught electricity?
>>
>>61714816
Whois Vocational School.
>>
>>61715692
Not until high school.
>>
>>61715692
Not outside of tech classes, no. Chemistry didn't even cover it iirc. Physics may have but I didn't elect to take physics and went for biology.
>>
>>61715798
>>61715789
I had a tech class back in middle school that taught basic soldering and electronics, along with other things such as CAD and interior design.
Of course though that's just anecdotal and that's not indicative of every middle school in the US.
>>
Because niggers and spice can't into complex things.

It would have been just another thing for leftists to screech about when white kids did better while also conveniently ignoring the Asian kids who also do well.

Equality for them just means we all have to suck equally.
>>
>>61715866
I was taught the basics of how electrons flow and how to estimate the resistance in a wire, but I wasn't taught electronics until later.
Basic stuff such as estimating the minimum short circuit current to see how long a fuse takes to burn and how to calculate a circuit.
