210 watt TDP for 10.5TFLOP and $400 sounds amazing if true. But not sure 4GB is enough unless the HBCC works in all games without needing specific driver support. Being "TBC" makes it sound like it won't be the same 8GB.
>>
TDP and clocks for the liquid ones are interesting.
>>
>>61649929

Just look at Vega 10 XL. It was to have a performance equal to or higher than 1080 Ti, seriously!
>>
>>61649929

>>
>>61650382
To be real though, we've seen a lot of improvements in performance through drivers alone out of AMD.
>>
If the Vega 56 performs similarly to the 1070 then I'll be all over it

>Buying a HOUSEFIRE turd that consumes 210W for same performance as 150W GTX 1070

>>61650543
Alright, show me a 1070 at $400 and I'll buy that instead
>>
>>61650525
It should be some 15% slower than a 64CU, that would put it above the 1070.
There's a rather large gap between the 1070 and 1080 for whatever reason

if the "pack" cards are bundled (not possible to sell them at the normal price) then it may be an incentive against miners, since a normal user may use the games or the discount for a new monitor; the miners need to sell them or pay the higher price.

Without actual benchmarks, you can't say how those cards do perform.
Do they fuck up with the texture cache? have a really shitty scheduler that shits itself up on a conditional branch? the driver is any good?
Even the shittiest architecture looks great when doing what is essentially an infinite multiply loop.
>>
>>61649996
Yep, i knew the details were going to be too good to be true as they began leaking for the 56. Quite surely, they're going to make it 4GB w/ gimped memory bus bit width to push you into Vega 10 XT at a minimum. Showing that no one is above $$$/cents in business.

We'll see shortly once the showcase @ SIggraph begins.
Really scratching my head here about the time they're kicking this off. 5pm PST would have made a lot more sense.
>>

Heh, minimum framerate is the silver lining.
>>
>>61650717
So without actual benchmarks you're assuming that it has the same performance as a 1070, consumes a litle bit more power and costs less than half the price is really a bad deal?
>>
>>61650614
They marked up the pack by $100. So, i'm not understanding the value proposition here unless you're a gamer and don't already own a ryzen setup. That early adopter tax hitting again.
>>
>>61650753
What about for 1080?
>>
>>61650753
I feel like this gets overlooked far too easily. The stutters are the most jarring. A consistent framerate is more important than a high one, but why not both?
>>
Well done chinks
>>
>>61650779
Who cares.
>>
>>61650764
It's more of a general "stop using flops as a performance measure".
It can be slower than the flops paint, it can be faster than the flops paint.
>>
>>61650795

>>
>>61650567

>>61650722

>>61650735

>>61650779
There's a 1080 in that chart
>>
>>61650753
Hmm, now this is actually interesting and an actual reason to not consider Nvidia at all if it's true.

If it's true, small variance between average and minimum is what I've been chasing for the last few years, I don't trust AMD on this yet.
>>
>>61650784
Honestly though, I'd rather take 80fps min and 120fps avg instead of 50fps min and 150+ avg

Just a hypothetical comparison against a 1080ti, they're not in the same price range anyway.

From what I'm seeing the 1080 has no reason to exist now unless you need that lower TDP
>>
>>61650753

are we waiting for august 14th now?
AMD never ceases to amaze.
>>
My observation is if the 56 can pull off better lowest framerates than the 1080, and handily beat the 1070 then it can go in a mid-range box with a 1600 and make one hell of a price-performance monster for 1440p gaming. It'd be insanely cheap compared to other builds and the cpu wouldn't be limiting your frames.
>>
>>61653746
Bad comparison for several reasons.
Pascal 1070/80 have fewer cuda cores than the 980ti
It's also a 25% clock increase with better efficiency

Vega and the furyx have the same 4096 cores.
So comparing clocks is fine
600mhz bump in clocks
Marginally better performance
400w power draw
>>
>>61653765

If you do the averages it's about 10% faster than a GTX 1080 @ 4k.

Give it a 10-15% boost with the watercooled version and it will be on par with a 1080ti.

to be fair some engineers confirmed that tile based rendering, dsbr and some power saving features were not enabled.
It's probably gonna get a bit of a boost.
>>
>>61656382
Eh, it's comparable to a 1080 for similar price point, are you really dumb enough to think it would beat a 1080Ti?
>>
>>61656410
>a bit
Fucking hell the entire point of Kekler to Maxwell was introducing TBR.
Also where the fuck is culling?
Ayymd ples.
>>
>>61656415
1080ti is obscenely overpriced given the die size.
Vega will beat it, just like it beats P6000, if they manage to get it working in gayms.
>>
>>61656418
>Also where the fuck is culling?
that's part of dsbr
don't expect it to magically deliver 50% universally though
it might in some cases, but most games will probably see 10-15% at best IMO
I could be wrong of course.
probably gonna pick up a card to test where the actual bottlenecks are since reviewers never go in depth with these things
>>
>>61656435
>hardware shader stage is a part of DSBR
?
That's not the point.
Where the fuck is culling that makes Vega10 shit on full GP102 in Creo?

I love how AMD lives in a world where fhe 1080ti doesn't exist.

With that said, the Vega 56 looks like the sweet spot for price/performance, it's between a 1070-1080, reasonable TDP and price.
>>
Shilling SSG is nice and good since nVidia cannot compete but where's advertised features working in consumer products?

>>
>>61656479
Whyyyyyyyyy they fuck would you launch gaymen cards then?
Nvidia delayed Maxwell2 for a good fucking reason.
>>
>>61653897

With CPUs, you don't have to wait for aftermarket variants though. Only morons buy reference graphics cards.
>>
>>61656443
Culling is already supported in all big enigines.. if you think this will give any boost you're dumb.
>>
>>61655350
I can really wait that long but I am tempted to buy a reference card and install a custom cooler later. Any news about that?
>>
>>61656497
to sell off the stock to unsuspecting waiting customers of course.

KYS ASAP

Latest info is showing 8GB.
That might be the card to get. Maybe yields suck if they're making that that attractive.

Shame the full die Vega is so meh. Barely better at 4K, but only at high power usage, and worse at everything else.
>>
>>61650753
By "minimum FPS range" it looks like they're looking at the absolute lowest in one of those games for each card, and not the lowest averaged between them.

I'll wait for real reviews to judge the averages of their 0.1% minimums at 4K.

>>61650779
You have to be retarded to get more than a 1070, or really more than an RX580 or 1060 6GB, for 1080p.
An RX580 or 1060 drive most competitive games to 144-300FPS fine, and most high end newer games to 70-90+ on high/very-high.

You should be on a 1440p or 4K monitor to be considering a 1080 or higher.
>muh future proofing
you're retarded if you are considering that on this generation. Wait for MCM cards for that. The last chance you had for future proofing was getting a 7970 or 290X. There hasn't been such a leap in tech since there was then.
Best way to "future proof" now is to keep more money in your bank account.

>>61650832
I wouldn't consider Nvidia due to their software and G-sync-idiot-tax. Vega is still disappointing, though.

Even better that you can get up to $200 off a monitor and $100 off ryzen cpu+motherboard with the Vega pack.

>>61650951
40fps is okay on some slow games. But really you can likely turn down settings to reach 60. But I'd say that even 60 is too low, and 75+ is the minimum you want, yeah.

I was looking to upgrade to a 4k 120hz HDR10 monitor with at least 98% of DCI-P3. I mostly play older games so I should be okay. I'm also fine with playing on "high" since "ultra" usually doesn't look different on newer games.
But the performance bump from Vega 56 to one of the high end cards doesn't look worth it. But Vega 56 over a 1070 definitely looks worth it, especially if driver updates make it even better.
>>
>>61657547
But it's a fact...
>>
JJust wait for a driver update.

AMD said poor volta. They wouldn't lie.

There must be a hidden ace card under their sleeves.
>>
>>61659755
AMD confirmed hardware features were disabled in Vega FE drivers. They will be ready for RX Vega's launch in two weeks.

Well, Volta is DOA for video editing for sure.

I think I'm going to wait for AIB partner cards before I get a Vega. I'm reasonable sure that a Vega 56 will be fine for the Oculus I just ordered, and since I'm only driving a single 1440 panel atm it should work fine. I'm seriously considering upgrading to a triple panel setup though and at that point I should probably get a vega 64.

We'll see what the pricing on AIB cards is. I'm willing to bet there will be AIB cards with 1700 MHz boost clocks on air though.

the 56 looks nice.

Yeah seems like a Vega 56 partner board is the best option.
