Hey /g/, I was hoping for some advice on picking a laptop. My only requirements are it has to be able to Windows, have a usb port for a mouse, be able to handle video editing, and I have to be able to do my finances on it, Very low requirements, I know, but my budget is also low. My absolute max is $500 but I'd ideally like to keep it between 300-450.
I've been looking at the thinkpad because it was the first one i saw in my price range on PC mag. I'm very stupid when it comes to laptops.

Maybe if you're editing 480p only. Anything more and you're going to get problems.

Literally all i need it to be able to handle is 480p in windows movie maker, im not making Dunkirk.
The Acer Aspire 5 runs at about $600, I'd save for that.
If you need something for less right now, get a Thinkpad x200 off of EBay or something.

Computers off ebay arent reliable, are they?

Get a $100~$150 T420, add 16gb of ram, an SSD and upgrade the processor to a quad core i7 2720QM.
Done.

im sorry i dont speak tech support, hablo englais. you mean build my own computer?
>>61649907
fucking prick. No, not building your own computer, just customizing the specs of it.

No, he means that you should buy a Lenovo Thinkpad t420 for $150 on Ebay and then later upgrade the storage and memory.

and upgrade the processor as well for the two extra cores if he wants to do video stuff

You can't come here completely illiterate, expecting to crowdsource a thrifty tech purchase. That's not what this board is for, and you're too poor to redeem. You can go to a used car lot and say, "I want to go 60 mph and I want to do it for less than $5000," and that can work, but tech isn't like buying used cars -- you can't say, "I want to do x for *this* much." You need to get familiar and get some more money poorfag

ACTUALLY, that's exactly how it works. You give a price range and a use case and pick something.
But you're right; this isn't OP's personal IT site.

Then proper information should at least be given to him then. Quad core has heating issues when you put it inside a T420, also is 45W instead of 35W.
