In short: if a manufacturer stops supporting your hardware at any point then Microsoft may not longer upgrade your version of Windows 10.

Microsoft has already done it to Intel Atom processors from 2012 which are on the same architecture as Sandybridge?
So this is a possibility that all Intel processors pre-Ivy Bridge won't receive future Windows 10 feature updates aside from security updates.
