I'll throw in another viewpoint just for discussion.

Maybe humans are already obsolete, and we're on our way out. Maybe a collapse of our ecosystem is looming in our future. So maybe, an AI formed in our image, will be our legacy to surive in the new, inhospitable environments to come. That shall be our evolution.

medicine, finances, engineering, etc. it won't put people out of work if its used properly, as much as it will give them a new tool.

imagine if a doctor could put in the results of ten tests and have a result that is 99.9% accurate in diagnosis.

or if your broker could pick stocks with near negligible risk

or if the engineer building a bridge could run the schematics through a system that would check load/stress/etc and make adjustments where needed?

unfortunately all we're doing now is just saying 'oh boy what's the worst that can happen' and letting these programs run amok inside the world's most powerful computers.
