You actually basically have to run TC from linux if you actually want it to be bulletproof
the latest release has bugs, and development was discontinued years ago

I had the same problem with my ssd, I used some partition distro on a live usb to clear the drive and it worked.

Even if you format normally the table still sits there, you need to use a tool to remove it.

the laptop youre using really doesn't matter when it comes to choosing a distro. I personally am typing this on my acer aspire e1 series laptop using cloveros. The distro is more of a preference and not really hardware dependent
