If you have a good trackpad, you don't need a mouse. Basically, unless you own a MBP, you need a mouse.

The built in TrackPoint or trackpad. Laptops come with pointing devices to be used. If you can't stand yours to the point where you carry a mouse everywhere you go, it's time to get a better laptop.

just dropping in here to say that the trackpad on the HP spectres (the glass ones that are more or less the exact size of an iphone) are fucking fantastic. I still plug in a mouse for editing photos and other precision work, but between the touchscreen and the excellent trackpad it's badass

also, OP, why go wired when you can go wireless unless you're a hardcore gamer that goes on about muh latency

Currently using an old Zowie FK that I don't use anywhere.
Planning on getting a Logitech Anywhere S2.
Small, can connect though bluetooth so I don't need to use a usb slot and it supposedly has like 3 day battery life.
