I just want to encrypt a few sensitive files, not going ballsdeep hard disk encryption.
So, what's your recommendation /g/,
VeraCrypt of TrueCrypt?
what a coincidence, i'm currently encrypting my local drive with veracrypt after Hansa got fucked by the feds.
i also went the easy route and used bitlocker on my other drives, just because. i thought TrueCrypt got discontinued and that VC is basically the new fork.

VeraCrypt is the best option
>>61520230
Ciphershed
GnuPG.

>bitlocker
lol
If I am doing dual boot is this going to cause me any issues when I try access the other drive or do you just enter your password?
>>61520230
xor
>>61520441
after grub you'll get the luks or whatever password screen, then you login

Second this, for very simple requirements. EcryptFS is an alternative, but i haven't checked if it's available for windows or not.
I never tend to encrypt the drive the OS is on rather the drive due to slowing it down.
>>61520230
use veracrypt
truecrypt is outdated as fuck, don't let any dumbass here fool you into using unmaintained software.

This

Is 7z with a password safe? They use 256aes. Don't they?
>>61520916
it's hardly noticeable on modern equipment
>>61520962
Yes it's pretty safe, Haven't looked too much into it but if it's using 256 then go for it.
>>61520974
Would you happen to know the speed difference between with and without?
>>61520230
ecryptfs
while a powerful and thus complex tool, it usually comes with a justwerks-script that lets you create an encrypted directory in ~/Private

If you only want to encrypt a few files (and not keep them inside some big container) then use GPG. E.G:gpg -c unsafe_file.txt
gpg encrypted.txt.gpg
It prompts you for passwords.
Just use rot13
