Should I get a 4k or 1080p TV, /g/?

I plan to mostly use it for PC gaming by running an HDMI cable to my PC. For gaming my computer can't handle 4k, so I have to use 1080p resolution. How are 4k TVs at upscaling? Does shit look blurry?

It's retarded but 1080p TVs don't seem to be made much anymore and 4k TVs are barely more expensive than 1080p TVs.

Enjoy your half a second input lag, TVs suck for gaming. Just get a 1080p monitor.

How far are you sitting away and what size of TV are you planning on getting?

This is also a concern, I play on a TV, Vizio 32" E Series and it's pretty bad even though it's supposed to be one of the more passable panels.

I have a gaming monitor. This is for when I want to get comfy, watch TV with friends and play games on the couch.

>>61516699
I'm sitting about 7/8ish feet away from the TV. I'd like to get a 55-60 inch.
>>

Depending on your vision 1080 will be fine at that distance, and in some cases even closer. There really is no advantage to 4k at that distance with that size. Good luck finding a good panel though, especially now. Avoid Smart TVs when possible.

Why not just buy a monitor?

You piss me off.

Thanks for this! I'll look into my options. I definitely don't need a smartTV.

How well do 4k TVs upscale 1080p content? Is the shit blurry like 720p to 1080p?
>>
>>61516643
1440p >=120Hz is the best. if you can't afford that, 1080p >=120Hz is the second best option.
>>
>>61516919
At that distance I don't think it'll be particularly noticeable, but I couldn't really say. Unlike 720 to 1080 (225%), 4k is a jump of 400%, so it may be worse.
>>
>>61516643
you can get them used I think
I got mine from the trash
>>
>>61516733
I use a 60in 1080p Sharp aquos for the exact setup you're describing and it's great. You can find them on Craigslist for around 300 used because it's an older tv but the picture is great
>>

Scaling appearance depends on the content. Streaming or YouTube is hard to tell apart. PC scaling or high quality content scaling is very noticeable. Using windows in 1080p on my 4k tv looks absolutely awful, gaming is more or less the same because detailed textures look bad, edges look soft, etc.

I'd say stick to 1080p til you can upgrade your PC, just because the 1080ti can run games at 4k 60fps it doesn't mean we are at the 4k realm, not yet, perhaps in 3 years or so.
>>
good luck find a quality 1080p tv now
>>
>>61516643
1080p is like 50% of 4k (the 3840x2160 one) so you will easily setup either nothing (if TV scales well) or the in-GPU scaling (guaranteed to do it correctly without blurring).
>>
>>61516643
I mean, 1080p is exactly 50% of 3840x2160 so you definitely can get good upscailng either with TV or with GPU if TV fails for some reason.
