Has /g/ ever gotten calls from a "Microsoft Certified Technician?" Did he try to tell you, you have Wiruses on your computer? Did you try to fuck with them?
>>
No, but several of my mother's friends did, and two of them fell for it.
>>
>>61507998
i don't answer calls from numbers i don't recognize.
>>
What do they ask you to do?
>>
>>61508105
Download a (legitimate) remote control tool and control your computer. They'll open event viewer and show you the errors, telling you they're caused by hackers or an expired warranty. Then they'll want your cc number to charge you a $150 onetime fix or $300 for a 2 year subscription. They'll just disable error logging, making event viewer logs empty, and maybe delete temporary files.
>>
My mom did, she said to call back after she talks to her son that "understands the computer stuff" and they hung up.

I told my grandparents about it and they said they already got one awhile back and didn't trust the guy because they didn't understand him, then heard about the scam later on the news.
>>
>>61508150
Are they also trained to scam Mac users, now that it has a significant desktop market share (20% in the US)?
>>
>>61508258
It doesn't seem like it

This just happened to me yesterday OP. We got super in depth into the process, and as soon as he told me to doing something windows related I told him I was on Linux,

>he hangs up immediately
>>
>>61507998
I got one, asked him what his mother would think of him being a scam artist. he starts swearing at me and hangs up. calls back some months later, verify he's talking to me, screams fuck you then hangs up
>>
My grandma fell for it a few weeks back. I get them all the time and just hang up. There are days I'm tempted to scream into the phone instead.
>>
>>61508507
Tippity top kek
>>
>>61508258
Some are. I've seen some that will show you the system log viewer, which typically contains a few lines of errors and warnings.

If they see a Linux desktop, they will think it's a Mac, even if you insist it's not.
>>
>>61507998
Had one of these pricks call me during dinner a few months ago. Blasted my stereo into the phone. He hung up quick.
>>
>>61507998
/g/'s userbase IS the microshill Pajeet.
>>
I only ever got one phone call. They directed me to the event viewer to try and convince me that any notices were viruses that had to be fixed through a RAT.
>>
I tried ducking with them a few times but they mostly call me when I'm busy.

One time I gave a guy teamviewer access while I had some beastiality porn running. He tried closing the window but I opened it all the time. Forced him to watch a dog and a guy Fuck.
Then he hung up when I avoided the questions regarding the porn.

>Hello yes we are detecting that you have an issue with Windows Update?
>That's not possible, I have Windows Update disabled.
>...y...we can help you to re-enable Windows Update, yes?
>If you know my specific computer has an issue, then you must know who I am.
>Yes sir we know who you are, yes.
>What's my first name?
>................................George?
>Nope.

He hung up immediately.

>tfw you're a no-life NEET with nothing better to do than drag out a scammer's time, it's also the only time anyone ever calls you besides your monthly call from family checking on you to make sure you're not a bloated, rotten corpse
>>
>>61507998

I got them all the time back when I had a land line. I always wanted to fuck with them but I could never think of anything that would be funny enough to be worth the time. My cousin actually fell for it once though. That was a god damn mess.

and thats a shame because i really want to try attached
>>
>>61507998
>Tell him you use Linux
>He completely stumbles over and fucks off
It was pretty funny to me.
>>
Yeah, i usually apply what i learned from /int/.
>Kashmir belongs to Pakistan
>You will never surpass Britain or China
etc
>>
Has anyone ever blasted an airhorn down the phone at someone? That's meant to be a great trick against scammers, but I don't see how it would be any better than loud music or whatever else you can try for the same effect.

How come every customer service rep on amazon i've spoken to is a goddamn indian? Is there no white people left in the world????
>>
>>61507998
I have back in the dial-up days. I told them to fuck off and keep making fun of them by imitating indian. yet they still always call back.
>>
>>61507998

Used to get them all the time

The last time I got one I told him to take the poo to the loo

They've never called again
>>
I always wanted to set up a vm laden with crapware that they connect to so that they get infected somehow and allow you to take control of their computers and servers at a later date, but i'm a lazy bastard.
>>
>>61507998
I didn't sadly. I'd put them in my i3 meme linux VM and watch them suffer.

i think it's fucking funny how all you racist shit bags who sit and denegrate jews and pajeets for making the technology you rely on daily will turn around and have one of your stupid family members fall for some broken english obvious scammer calling from Windows. it keks my sides into space when they are the kind of cunts who would run over arab-looking people in detroit after obama won, but will open their wallets if they think the porn machine is compromised. you are all just filled with impotent rage and know little to nothing about how computers actually work. good job at contributing to this technology board tho.
>>
>>61508085
This is the correct answer.
>>
>>61508105

for the effort of that long post
>>
>>61507998
Yea, once I told them straight out not to bother I know it's a scam, and the poo was laughing on the other end telling me I'm a smart guy. Another time the poo got mad with me over the phone, kept him on the phone for over 1hr acting senile, we had a heated discussion trading insults back and forth. He got really pissed when I told him you're probably in a bullshit building that smells, with a dirt floor and the computer is probably on cardboard boxes and the bathroom is outside in the dirt road in front of the place.
>>
I wonder what's the risk/reward for these indians, and third world in general scamming western countries.

Earlier this year a few dozen were caught in India for the IRS scams on americans, but in general, they probably make a lot with minimal risk.

I saw a video where someone fucked with the scammers and made them refund a bunch of people.
>>
Well I set up an automated caller and recorder using Twilio. It plays any message I choose (mp3, text to speech, etc.) and can even do dial tones if there's some anti-robot shit. However its hard as fuck to get a good number to fuck with them. I'm open to suggestions for numbers, if it works I'll post the recordings of the calls here. I call from several nums simultaneously too for maximum lol potential

Closest I've ever gotten is an Indian calling me about some alleged ransomware he'd somehow put on my machine. He'd only remove it if I paid him - and I quote - "one thousand United States American dollars, please."

How polite of him.

Trying to explain to him, albeit facetiously, that Linux and Windows aren't the same thing was an entertaining waste of 30 minutes.
>>
>>61507998
If I were to have windows 10 in a vm (on macOS), would there be anything an Indian can do to fuck up my computer outside the vm?

I follow their directions and install team viewer in a Windows XP VM with a furry porn background. I lead them through a million loops and waste their time until they get pissed off and quit. I close and delete the VM, set up a new one, and wait for the next one.
