Just switched to Xfinity.
Paying $70 a month for gigabit speeds.(1gbps down/40mbs up)

I've been getting pic-related for the past 6 hours.
How royally fuck am I? Why is this legal?
>>
>>61491683
How about instead of complaining on the internet you bitch to someone who can actually help you

What the hell do you think I was doing the previous 6 hours.

Now I'm posting it here for extra bitching while I wait since there's nothing else to do on my end.

Now fuck off.
>>
Take a speedtest at the modem/router.

Your wireless network is shit which is why you're only getting 2Mbps

It's fairly simple assuming you can get enough people to pay into it and there are no zoning restrictions on running fiber and such.

passive optical fibers can go 20km and provide 10gbps+ of bandwidth using NG-PON2. And that's just on a single fiber run.

>>
>>61497789
>If this isn't fixed by Monday
Then you're switching back to AT&T.

No ISP is going to provide that sort of support on the weekend, to a residential customer.

If you give it a week or two, you'll likely get your gigabit, if you're an impatient shit, you deserve your shitty 50mbps.
>>
>>61497809
>If you give it a week or two
A WEEK or 2?
What the absolute fuck?
Do you think I'm just a pleb that will tolerate dial-up tier internet for half a god damn month? If I'm paying this amount of money for Gigabit, then like any functional service, I should get my fucking advertised speeds. It's 2017. Everything revolves around the internet. That's like having no electricity for 2 weeks.

Only an idiot would wait that long. When I was with AT&T, this never happened. I'm calling every single fucking day, and if it's not resolved by Monday, yeah, back to AT&T.
>>
>>61497870
Lol you're a fucking moron kid.

You're nothing to comcast, you will get your gigabit if you give them time to figure out what's wrong.

If you expect top tier instant support 24/7, pay for a fucking business line. You'd have had a tech come out in a truck this afternoon if you were on a business line.

>If I'm paying this amount of money for Gigabit
lol, dude you're probably paying almost nothing for gigabit compared to what a business gigabit connection would cost. Do you know WHY business lines cost so much more? Because you have dedicated support which is ready to go much further in-depth with troubleshooting than those pricks in india following on-screen troubleshooting prompts.

Your gigabit is LAUGHABLY cheap, because you have shit for support, and if something goes wrong, yea it's gonna take a bit of time to resolve.

If you actually give them a chance, they WILL get around to fixing it, but realize the consumer level techs are working on a dozens of other customer's issues, all while trying to help you as well.

Actually I've already had a tech come out this afternoon, but of course it was useless. Said it didn't look like anything was wrong despite me directly showing him how awful the upload speeds were. Said it must be my modem since I'm not using the 'official Comcast rental equipment ;)". Fuck paying $10 a month for their garbage.

>pay for a fucking business line
So now I have to pay 3x the amount JUST because they can't honor an agreement and provide the services as advertised? You're a piece of shit if you condone their behavior.
>>
>>61497979

your government hates investing in proper infrastructure for anyone but themselves.

Plenty of fiber in london, but it's almost all government use.

If your government wasn't retarded they'd have spent the ~150B pounds to get your major cities mostly hooked up with decent fiber a decade ago.

Now it's even cheaper, yet still they refuse to do any real investment and even stifle private investment.

It was just 1080p TV rips/Bluray movies that I was going to use on Plex for my TV, though I think I did download every H-game off nyaa.com.de too. Also downloaded maybe I dunno 20k doujins from nhentai
>>
>>61498425
i used to work at an australian ISP, we did this a lot for people who started hogging bandwidth. odds are if comcast has done that immediately after you downloaded 700 gb in one day, they're "protecting their network" and will keep your speed that way until next month. if you continue they will probably consider cutting your service. especially if they catch you torrenting.

i know it's bullshit, but mate. contention ratios. get a business connection if you want guaranteed speed 24/7.
>>
>>61498366
Aight, thanks m8.

Yeah, well, the internet in Romania has a peculiar history. It all started with local, neighbourhood networks made by the people living there, which became administered by small firms.

Eventually these local networks got connected and it all became one big LAN.

Later on, the small firms got bought by bigger firms and since then, we've enjoyed the benefits of real competition.

You can only get such good internet in the cities here, as far as I know.

Having a medium size territory might have helped too. Bigger countries are more difficult to cable.

We also have lots of cheap labour force in IT and communications.

So, I think, these are the main factors which made Romania one of the top countries in terms of average internet speed.
>>
>>61498457

>>61498488
I really don't care about having constant 1gp/s speed, I'm mainly talking about this 0.06 upload speed. I can barely upload a 500kb image on fucking 4chan. Shit's bad.

>>61498515

>>
>>61498468

>>
>>61498468

I was under the impression they only throttled your torrent speeds, not your entire connection.
>>
>>61498525
So far? Nothing, i'm one of 5 seeders and no leech.
>>
>>61498535
you don't have 1 gbps speeds, and you don't have unlimited data.

you have the capability of unlimited data (providing you're not disrupting the integrity of the network, which you are if you're downloading literally every loli hentai on the planet 24/7/365), and you have the capability of 1 gbps. you don't have a guarantee to either of those two.

if you want guaranteed 1 gbps and as much bandwidth as you can handle, get a business connection.

>>61498542
i agree mate, but someone has to pay for the infrastructure to handle your anime rape simulators. if you want guaranteed access 24/7, pay for it.

>>61498553
torrent throttling is different from network protection throttling. torrent throttling will throttle all p2p downloads, network protection throttling will reduce your connection to low ADSL speeds (or less, we used to cap people to 52k dialup speeds kek) until someone manually reverses it or a cron job undoes it.
>>
>>61498566
ahh is this a private tracker?
>>
>>61498580
Yeah, I only use private trackers.
>>
>>61498553
If the can sniff the torrenting, they'll just throttle that, so when you complain, they can run an unthrottled speed test and say nothing is wrong.
If you are just using a tb of data, they don't care what it is, if you aren't a business, they just throttle everything.
>>
>>61498570

Right, so what, every speed tier in consumer grade is basically pure bullshit? Even the tech said if the speeds aren't within relative range of your paid plan, then something is wrong.

I should NOT be getting dial-up speeds when I'm paying for this speed.

>until someone manually reverses it or a cron job undoes it
Is there anything as a consumer I can do to reverse it, aside from threaten to cancel my service?

I mean this is stupid. If they can't deal with an outlier using their advertised plans, then they shouldn't offer it.
>>

well, it makes no sense for me to be a business when I'm a consumer.

providing you're not maxing it out 24/7 and disrupting the local network, or maxing it out and somehow putting more stress on international links than acceptable, no.

>I should NOT be getting dial-up speeds when I'm paying for this speed.
too fucking bad. shell out $10,000 a month for a business connection.
those aren't dial-up speeds by the way.

>Is there anything as a consumer I can do to reverse it, aside from threaten to cancel my service?
wait, or maybe you can try to get on the phone to someone who manages the network, but i doubt you'll be able to do that in a hurry.

>I mean this is stupid. If they can't deal with an outlier using their advertised plans, then they shouldn't offer it.
clearly you haven't caught on to why they even offer 1gbps speeds in the first place. it's so that they have the infrastructure for business users in place. you're just a goy that they're milking for those sweet sweet OpEx dollars.

You're just telling me I'm being punished for using the service I'm paying for. No where in their contract or fine print does it say "We can randomly drop your speeds down to potato speeds if decide to actually use your speeds".

Maybe I should log all of this and sue the fuck out of them. Hell If it were possible I'd sue YOU too
>>
>>61498807
i mean yeh what your saying is true
>>
They're slowed restrained by pesky government regulations to just GIVE you 1/gbps, once they repeal NN and Title II we promise you that we'll give you your full speed and won't throttle you!

>WE RESERVE THE RIGHT TO LIMIT OR BLOCK ANY SERVICE USAGE AS WE DEEM NECESSARY TO PREVENT HARM TO OUR NETWORK, FRAUD, OR OTHER ABUSE OF THE SERVICE(S).

it's literally in all caps.

>Most of that bandwidth usage came from TV show rips, not porn.
curtail your TV show habit, then.

>Why should I curb my hobby when everyone else in the world can download to their hearts content.
yes comrade, the american peoples is oppressed by the evil ruling class, we must revolt and return the value and work of the people to the people, all hail lenin! all hail marx!

>Maybe I should log all of this and sue the fuck out of them.
don't waste your time, or your money.
>>
>>61498844
Because ISPs won't block access to services that compete against theirs, or dictate how you can use the product you pay for, throttle websites that go against the political viewpoint of the company.
>>
How do you rip the loli dojjin.
I need to know for... reasons.
>>
>>61498867
>PREVENT HARM TO OUR NETWORK
So, downloading content, with their 1gps speeds as advertised, is "harming their network"? That's like buying a car that can travel at 200MPH, then having it automatically get shut off because you drove at 200MPH. Doesn't matter how much you try to defend them, it's just plain wrong.

If you're not playing devil's advocate, then you're nuts.
>>
>>61498877
t. cuck. just give them your money stop being greedy and stop expecting to be able to use your bandwidth.
>>

>Doesn't matter how much you try to defend them, it's just plain wrong.
https://www.xfinity.com/Corporate/Customers/Policies/HighSpeedInternetAUP.html

>The need to engage in network management is not limited to Comcast. In fact, all large Internet service providers manage their networks. Many of them use the same or similar tools that Comcast does. If the company didn't manage its network, its customers would be subject to the negative effects of spam, viruses, security attacks, network congestion, and other risks and degradations of service. By engaging in responsible network management including enforcement of this Policy, Comcast can deliver the best possible broadband Internet experience to all of its customers.

>Comcast uses various tools and techniques to manage its network, deliver the Service, and ensure compliance with this Policy and the Subscriber Agreement. For example, these network management activities may include [...] (iii) temporarily lowering the priority of traffic for users who are the top contributors to current network congestion

>If you're not playing devil's advocate, then you're nuts.
i've worked for an ISP, all ISPs do this.
>>
>>61498924

>>
>>61498867
if they're advertising and selling a 1gbps connection, they should deliver in it. they shouldn't offer it if they can't supply it.
>>
>>61499001
If you know the secret please teach me. Or link to a tutorial. This is very important.
>>
>>61499003

they do. you're the one abusing the network. buy a business connection.
>>

>temporarily lowering the priority of traffic for users who are the top contributors to current network congestion
I can understand this, but there's no benefit to them lowering it so much that the top contributor cant use their own internet for an entire day
>>
>>61499054
i am not the op i was just asking if your high? and if you know how a transaction works
>>

oh, there is a benefit alright. you just can't see it. since you have your head 20 feet up your ass.

>>61499074
i know how ISPs work, since i've worked at one.
>>
>>61499071
>inb4 but you are using the internet

im basically stuck posting on 4chan and checking my gmail. I cant watch videos. I definitely cant upload anything.

My TV uses amazon fire which uses my internet speed, so I can't watch tv either.

I'm just fucked, all because I decided to download at the speeds I'm paying for.
>>
>>61499081
>oh, there is a benefit alright
yet somehow you didn't list it.
the network shouldn't be congested with me even having half my speeds. Really, I'd be thrilled just to have 50Mbps/5Mbps right now.

I can't do anything.
Again, this NEVER happened with AT&T, regardless of how much I downloaded.
>>
>>61498729
Business just means you pay them a $30 protection fee
>>
>>61499050

>>61499303
Nope, retarded normies that only use 0.1% of their paid internet get more priority, so now you're going to suffer regardless of what you paid for. Too bad! :)
