Obviously everyone knows that it's "jiff" but what a rare few know is the true pronunciation of GIMP or the GNU image manipulation program. Commonly people will pronounce this software as "jimp" based off the pronunciation of gif.

This is in fact incorrect. The pronunciation of GNU is simply "new". The gnu is an animal that had existed for longer than human language so this will never change.
