Seriously, why do the current smartphone manufacturers not implement a meshed-adhoc-network-function (lets call it meshnet for simplicitys' sake)?
Imagine someone like apple or samsung rolling their novel devices and basically btfo cellphone carriers, advertising functions like free calls, free texting, free data transfer, free video calls, ability to "spread" internet content etc.
All they would need to do is use TCP/IP, some designated band in the high MHz / low GHz, and an app that allows users to choose what content to rout from internet to this meshnet.
Maybe a paying system that rewards being a mesh node, like being paid bitcoin for online time?
It can't be all that expensive hardwarewise (some antenna piece, maybe a couple of ICs), but could be a total blast in high-density urban areas.
