I don't know much about amplifier tech, but Onkyo are known for producing very good home cinema equipment. What you got there is probably pretty middle of the range, not excellent but very good.

pretty sweet that you got that for free but it's pretty dated. Doubt the hdmi on it are 2.0, it's full of composite and svideo inputs but who uses that. At least it's got some component. You could probably find a use for it if you really want to run wires all around your room for some pretty sweet sound

receivers often have the semi cool ability to basically convert video signals between different formats e.g. hdmi in component out might work
